Sorry for the slow reply- I was riding the FJR. Hot day with nice thunderstorms. But let me tell you more about this tread.
This is the campaign in this spring aimed at bikers. Part of it is also a partially sponsored day at the largest training ground in our country, where professional instructors train groups in driving on slippery surfaces and in handling at slow and high speed.
Last year there was a poll on the most dangerous roads. This resulted in a dozen or so "black" spots with a high number of deads or injured riders. On those roads the panels below were put up to warn any motorcycle driver that the road ahead was already fatal to others.
And, no, the guy there was pronounced dead even before the heli arrived on site. First emergency units were in place 10 minutes after it happened. Oh, the country is Luxembourg. Although Belgium is pretty close.
Problem is we have lots of foreign bikers from Belgium and the Netherlands. Most of them come here for our twisting roads but are not at all used to this driving. As a local I can only shake my head seeing what happens every day. There are folks driving at 100mph and more - on a normal road, mind you, not a highway. We have a speed limit of 60mph outside of towns. So think what happens when one of those fools sweeps around a corner only to have a cager in front doing 50. That's what happens at least once a week.
This goes so bad that the police is helpless. Anyway, how do you want to stop a guy coming up at 110mph? You can't block the road or he might fall and die of it.
And so this goes on and on.
