sprint st , goldwing, bmw . how can they compare the three bikes . where is the honda product or the fjr .

So did they compare them?

Kinda like, "well black is very black and white is very white but you might be surprised how white handles even though you'd think it was totally white from its appearance."

??

Basically they said the Gold Wing was the best handling 900 lb. motorcycle on the market...

But it's pretty clear you're gonna grind off everything below the cylinder heads if you take it thru the twisties at a slightly spirited level.

The Triumph looked kinda fun, but I don't do chains.

The BMW gets killed by the Euro exchange rate.

The article wasn't meant to be a comprehensive sport/tour comparo, just a sampler of the 3 ST's they happened to have.

I'm not sure what the point was then. It's like saying, "Here's three bikes and what we think about them. By the way they aren't comparable and we didn't compare them to what is comparable and available on the market." OK and the reason they are in the same article would be....................?

Sometimes you just have to wonder................................................ :eh:

i.e, "We have to fill six pages..."

I wonder what ads are interspersed with the article. Yeah, I'm cynical, but not *too* cynical, given the helmet articles they did a couple months ago.

It was certainly one of the lamer issues.

Can't wait till the rags get ahold of the new FJR with the voice-actuated tip-tronic shifting and variable-power-assist-linked-brakes.

Yes, it was a lame issue. On the other hand it WAS about decent, usable motorcycles, not those abortions built on tv by disfunctional families. I can understand that sometimes the bikes they want to test together aren't available.

one of the new editors has an write up on how he did not like the things cycleworld was doing with there mag. so he left to go to motorcyclist

variable-power-assist-linked-brakes.
Yeah, I heard that rumor; you insert a pressure sensor in your rectum, and the braking power is boosted linear to how hard the rider is puckered up...
My neighbor had a Harley with the variable pooch-power assisted brake system. It operated as you described. The braking application was directly proportional the pucker factor. Only problem was when the PF reached about 90% of max the sensor leaked oil on the seat and sliding off became a problem. :bleh:

I subscribe to Motorcyclist. I thought it was one of the worst issues that I had seen in years-very disappointed. A few more like that one & the recent H-D issues & I won't renew the subscription.

The only rag I get now is "Roadrunner". The others are just crap. The same problem exists in the off-road industry. Funny how one bike is the best thing since sliced spam one month, and 'long in the tooth, odd handling" the next. Make up your minds, would you???

The worst one is "Rider". They can't decide what demographic they are going after. And they blatently plug crappy products such as Harleys, cheap helmets, and very iffy riding gear. Any experienced rider can see right through the BS they shell out...

Check out Roadrunner sometime. Not much BS, mostly riding adventure stories and honest reviews. You can really tell the difference between them and the rest within 5 minutes of reading it.

It is just me or did this month's Motorcyclist just have less text? I read the entire issue (skipping the ads) in about 10 minutes.

I found myself whizzing through Motorcyclist just like you described. I ended up not renewing my subscription because it happened more and more...

...3 or more years ago.
