I'm currently using the Escort Passport 8500 with the earpiece. I'd like to use my IPOD with Etymotic headpones, but unfortunately, I don't have 3 ears. I know about H.A.R.D. and I think there is a radar amplifier out there too, but I don't want to drop any more coin than I have to. I'm not very techno-savvy. Is there any way to rig up something so the radar detector overrides the MP3 through the headphones??

Been running a MixIt since 2003. Works every time. Just used it today for a nice little 300 mile ride in the mostly-cloudy 80°+ Spring day.

I use the Mix-It also. My quandry was the same as yours. I wanted MP3 and Passport audio alert. Like you, I thought I would want something where the radar detector overrides the music. The Mix-It does not do that, but the Mix-It 2 DOES.

However, I strongly suggest NOT getting the override. Even with the music always on, I can still clearly discern the Passport audio alert. And if the radar detector alerting would cause the music to cut out, I know now it would be very annoying. There have been times where I am getting 10 minutes of weak X-band alerts. It would really piss me off not to be listening to music that whole time.

I have the AirRider on the Wing and it seems to always work and alerts on a hit? It works right through the headphones and over rides the music. I want it on the feejer but currently only have the Escort on the shelf and have to be alert to it through it's speaker. I have the AutoCom that was on the K12 and would like to have it installed on the FJR so I can have the Xbox radio as well as the detector and communication with the co-rider.

Yea my autocom does that so I went to a visual on the radar detector and took it out of the audio. It was very annoying. So now I have my mp3, phone and gps wired for sound.

I just got a double stereo plug from Radio Shack and plugged the Excort into my MP3 player and my Westones ear plugs. Worked great after I eliminated the ground loop. Ian, Iowa

I'm using a J&M 40 channel CB/intercom which works as an audio controller. I have an Escort 8500 X50, Garmin 2610, XM radio, cell phone and mp3 player all intergrated though the one unit and wired through to my helmets. It's a pretty neat setup. The cell phone rings in the left ear, the radar alerts in the right. Music and navigation comes through both. When a call comes in you flip a switch and the system becomes all phone.

They have a new portable unit that might be worth looking at. Their headset microphone setup is about the best audio you will get anywhere. Sounds like my stereo at home and I have a great home system.

Wonder if it would work with an mp3 and the Garmin street pilot 2610 ?
There's no isolated ground wire on the Garmin
Sorry, I don't know anything about the Garmin or isolated ground wires. All I know is the Universal Jacked Link uses a standard audio mini jack.

They make other models specific to certain cell phones that don't use a standard mini jack, maybe one of those is the same as the Garmin (if the Garmin doesn't use a mini). Worst case it's a $35 gamble.

If you don't want to spend a ton of money check this out:

The Jacked Link works great. It's designed for an Mp3 player and a cell phone but the universal model should work fine with the Passport.
I have been waiting about a month for them to get restocked with the jacked units. I called yesterday and they said it would be a few more days. How does the microphone work for cell phone use? It looks like the mike is built into the control unit and it will be difficult to switch off the music if the control unit/mike is tucked up inside my helmet. I figured for $35 I would give it a try, but am wondering how useful it will really be.

There are devices out there to do specific functions but when you start adding devices and demands on the system that is where you have to decide what inputs and devices you want to incorporate. That is why if you want bike to bike or intercom or even a CB you have to go to a Starcom or an Autocom device to get all this. Otherwise this splitter looks good for music and a phone but wouln't work for me with a GPS, radar detector, phone music and soon to be cb radio. There is also a great system out there, Baehr, I believe that how it is spelled, but for a complete system for two people you are looking at over a grand.

I've looked at those Baehr systems and they are truely bad ass. A communications console that will take as many gadgets as you can use and helmets with built in speakers and mic's. How cool is that?? If only money weren't an object <_<
