So sorry to hear this. :( Just reading it brings back the sorrow of one we recently lost to breast cancer. My thoughts are with you and the family. *Hugs*

It sounds like the pup got a hold of a Decon pellet, We had the same thing happen to one of my wife pups, heavy breathing and drooling alot, I tried to get her to the vet but too late to help. Check for Decon.

:(

But yes, bleeding out like that suggests a poison, and most likely Warfarin (rat bait). It may not have been the bait itself, but the pup may have gotten in to the carcass of a deceased rat (just as lethal for cats/dogs).

Sooooooo sorry to hear

sigh

+1, with new puppys you need to watch them every second, if you cant keep an eye on them there in the crate.

Sorry for your loss. I remember that loosing my Golden hurt worse that I ever imagined loosing a dog could hurt. I feel for your daughter.

Joe

Always hate to hear this stuff.I'm a dog guy, and have lost a few, and it always sucks.

Take care of the princess. Getting another (at some point) is the fastest way to feeling better.

My deepest sympathy to your daughter. It's devastating to loose a friend, especially one so young and whose love is so unconditional.

Sounds like quite a gal, who's got a lot going for her including a very caring stepDad! That's a tough break at any age, she has my sympathy!

Agreed. So sorry to hear of the family loss. The little discovery, Warfarin, named after the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation has killed many animals, people included, when ingested at too great of a dose. Vitamin K, in a timely manner, is the antidote.

Thank you. Your replies meant a lot.

Monday night my daughter received the results from the necropsy liver tissue sample. The veterinarian was so puzzled by the sudden death the puppy he split the costs of the necropsy with my daughter. In the end, they both learned something and I want to pass the information on to you.

E. coli

Dogs eat ****. We've had to keep an eye on our Snickers for the last 10 years because she will "clean up" the yard. It's disgusting, but it's true. Dogs will even snack on the contents of a litter box if the opportunity presents itself.

Death is rare, but possible. Believe me. Take care of those ignorant little **** eaters out there.

...and thanks again.

Wow, never heard of that in a dog. Well, at least you know, Joe.

Now, go out there with your daughter and find her a wonderful rescued dog. She deserves it, and a rescued dog deserves a nice owner like your daughter.

As the Aussies say, good on both of you.

I want to add my condolences to the rest of the forum members. There is no easy way to lose a pet - disease, old age, accident, whatever. They give so much love and joy. Each loss is hard but each new pet returns the joy in ways that cannot be imagined - and seeing pets in the shelter or at adoption events means that one life can be spared while another life is enriched.

Thanks for passing that information on! I've got two of the little **** eaters (Welsh Corgis), one appears in my avatar (actually both do, but the other is lying down in the background)!

Take care,
