So sorry to hear this. Just reading it brings back the sorrow of one we recently lost to breast cancer. My thoughts are with you and the family. *Hugs*

+1, with new puppys you need to watch them every second, if you cant keep an eye on them there in the crate.
But yes, bleeding out like that suggests a poison, and most likely Warfarin (rat bait). It may not have been the bait itself, but the pup may have gotten in to the carcass of a deceased rat (just as lethal for cats/dogs).
Sooooooo sorry to hear
sigh
Agreed. So sorry to hear of the family loss. The little discovery, Warfarin, named after the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation has killed many animals, people included, when ingested at too great of a dose. Vitamin K, in a timely manner, is the antidote.

Thank you. Your replies meant a lot.
Monday night my daughter received the results from the necropsy liver tissue sample. The veterinarian was so puzzled by the sudden death the puppy he split the costs of the necropsy with my daughter. In the end, they both learned something and I want to pass the information on to you.

Dogs eat ****. We've had to keep an eye on our Snickers for the last 10 years because she will "clean up" the yard. It's disgusting, but it's true. Dogs will even snack on the contents of a litter box if the opportunity presents itself.
Death is rare, but possible. Believe me. Take care of those ignorant little **** eaters out there.
...and thanks again.
