Had a nice little trip through the plantation country of Louisiana this morning. Thought I'd post a few photos I took along the way.

Lately I've been leaving home early, usually sometime between 5 and 6 am. The roads are all mine and nobody seems to be out at that hour except maybe the sheep...?

Got a few piccies to add to TWN's collection. Life is not complete without a visit to Slaughter, Louisiana.

Went to Mississippi for a bit. It was "like coming home," but in the wrong direction. (Note to Mississipians: you guys need a better sign motto. I would suggest something a little catchier like "Mississippi, It's above Louisiana.")

I was headed this way:

I always wondered what would happen if I moved one of these stones just a few feet...

Other than stopping to take a few pics along the way, I generally had a blast "pointing and shooting" my way down various roads.

I love riding early like that on a weekend morning, feels like your the only one left alive. In a town named Slaughter, this might just be true.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing.

Your pictures of those sheep have me a bit concerned...... is there something you need to tell us? :yahoo: :yahoo:

:assassin:

Baton Rouge.. another place I've never been..

Please post more ride reports and pix..

I need to head East..

I got to spend a week at the New Roads, LA, airport in 1994 and the people were just so easy-going and friendly. We were working with the sheriff's department in the sun and the man himself invited us for a Crawdad Etuffe (however you spell it) lunch in their garage, behind the courthouse.

We pulled up dirty and and they were cooking in big pots on some old split 55-gallon drums. It looked like some good ol' boys were stirring witches brew in those things, with bread on foil next to the pots. That meal was one of the best I've ever had!

One of our guys likes to cook and asked the Sheriff if he could have the recipe. The Sheriff was fairly big and Paul was a short guy. I'll never forget the Sheriff looking down at Paul, kind of putting his chest out proudly, pointing to a prisoner, and saying in that smooth drawl:

"Son, I'd give ya the recipe, but you ain't gots the 'gredients. Them boys up in the jail's just shucked them live shrimps an hour ago. They knows they eats whut we eats."

What a laid-back friendly place!

Gotta agree, this is some of the best food. I've been eating my way across the state since moving here last summer.

dcarver, I'll definitely keep posting. I'll be outta here in about 15 months, so gotta explore every back road while I can.

Love early morning rides, except for dumb ass deer.
My job had me setting up networks in several different places in Louisiana. If you get a chance, eat at the original (I think) Mulates in Breaux Bridge. Also try Randol's in Lafayette, and PreJean's in Opolusas if you get the chance. I got some good tips from some of the chef's... take advantage of the situation and learn to cook Cajun food while you're there.

Thanks for the dining tips, NoCage. Oddly enough, my neighbor, a cajun native, has a "weekend home" in Breaux Bridge and recommended the same place.

He doesn't ride, but knows all the good bike roads and best places to eat within a hundred mile radius.

Workin' on that Cajun cooking. We've already learned several different gumbos, next up is etoufee. Man, the shrimp around here is unbelievable, it's four bucks a pound from the fisherman. I'm really gonna miss that. But in the meantime, gonna eat and ride!

Thanks very much for the pictures... Brought back many memories as that part of the world was home to me for the first 25 years of my life. The older I get the more I miss it but at the same time the less probable it is that I will ever be able to return on a permanent basis  The people are the best and the food is truly incredible. I was not a motorcycle rider when I lived there. As a rider now, I can think of a number of roads around the Baton Rouge area that would make for wonderful rides.

As far as Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas are concerned I have often thought that their state motto's could all read "Thank God for (insert one of the states) if it weren't for us (insert one of the other states) would be last in everything."
