I had my $39 GoPro clone running (maiden voyage) time and date stamp not correct. No gravel, just kind of froze and went wide. Landed on the soft grass next to my bike. All of my Olympia rider gear and Nolan helmet did their jobs. Here is my first U-tube video.




 
Lucky. This is what happened to a rider on our new years day 2012 ride, only in his case there was a huge rock where he went off.

It takes a lot of experience and discipline to keep looking through the curve and recover. Ride coaching like Lee Parks and even the MSF advanced rider course can help drill in that kind of reaction.

 
Thanks for the video. It looks like the truck startled you and you lost focus. That's pretty much what happened to me when I hit a deer a few years back.

 
If you guys will go back and review that video, you'll notice that the young woman driving that truck was topless! I don't blame Roger for being distracted.

Looks like a definite learning experience though. Glad you could ride on.

 
Definately an Oh **** moment. If you listen to the video it seems you backed out of the throttle and just kinda froze at that moment. I take it you were running sweep with no one behind you. Surely a tough lesson to learn. Fortunately all ended well in the end. You walked away only bruised. We all have our close calls at times.

Glad you are okay, sucks your baby got a little road rash and bruising! I had my 1st drop 2 DAYS after bringing my FJR home, tried to turn in soft dirt and sunk the front tire it, over compensated and down she went...

Is it just me, or did anyone else think that corner had a decreasing radius as the exit appeared? It seemed Roger did let off the throttle and "open up" the steering angle which pushed even wider, but I swear that corner tightens up like Bust's... sense of humor when being needled! ;) . For real though, NOTHING (short of an AMA career and hours of track time) can beat ABS on my FJR when the excrement hits the oscillating airflow device.

Yeah yeah, if you're a track day and race addicted trust fund baby with no job and all summer free to ride, you "could" outbrake me in a tight corner with truck coming and gravel looming using only skills and standard brakes. No thanks, ill trust my ABS and gear every day and twice when it's raining!

Hope your bruises fade quickly and your bike is back to new soon. Just think... perfect time for a repaint in a sweet one-of-a-kind color. I always though a Feejer would look amazing in a burnt-orange copper color with dark graphite accents! Mmmhmm, just sayin...

I gotta say, I hate it when a vehicle enters a turn and startles me. Sometimes I fond myself adjusting my line, when there was nothing wrong with it in the first place.

Sorry you went down. Glad it wasn't too fast and you didn't get hurt.

 
First let me say I'm really glad you were not hurt-your lucky and smart with full gear. However what I saw in you video was you riding way to close to the centerline (double yellow) in your left hand turns. Not going to sugar coat it for you because that style of riding can get you killed.

The biggest reason that truck startled you was because of your improper line in a left hand corner. This is a mistake made by way too many riders both seasoned and new ones.

While attending a Reg Pridmore Class at Sears Point a few years back he really harped on us about staying away from the double yellow in turns as he has lost too many friends that way.

Had that truck been over the yellow just a bit this may not have had a good out come. Please learn from your mistake as I see no other reason for going down.

I agree. When the wheels are that close to the line, you're practically leaning into the other lane. I have to force my self to ride wider and stay out in the middle of the lane. Lots of close calls around here with cagers and cruisers on, or over that center line. Good thing the truck was in their lane. Glad you made it to tell the tale!

 
Sorry to hear about your accident and scratched-up bike. But it sounds like, all things considered, you were lucky in your landing spot (as you said, no trees or rocks).

I'm curious about where your mind was on your ride home. When I crashed my FJR, I seem to recall that my mind was very distracted and distressed on my ride home. Not sure if there's a lesson here, like, get a ride and have a friend get the bike back. How were you doing after the crash?

Yeah, stay right... I am guilty of this myself on many occasions... although, I'm rarely as close to center as is shown in the vid. I've worked hard on staying right. Still find myself not, tho.

 
God knows I hate to criticize my fellow forum denizens, but when folks submit their ride videos, it's amazing how often I find myself cringing as they take that left sweeper almost on the center line. Those riding classes are a good thing.

 
I appreciate everyone's comments and feedback. I have only been riding about 4 years now. Have a lot to learn. Have taken two rider safety classes but those are on fenced off areas with no real obstacles except for cones or white lines on the ground. It would be nice to be able to take an open road course over a windy section of road.

 
It also looked like this was a decreasing radius turn, not a place to lose focus
