Woo-Woo, rally pac came today, I'll be in Sikeston,Mo.Thursday evening. Looking forward to having dinner at Lambert's Cafe. Anyone want to join me?
Airboss did you get a room in Sikeston. Where?

Well see ya thursday night.
Mike,

Karl (Airboss) is staying at the PearTree, almost right across the street from Lambert's restaurant. Looks like he's going to arrive at Sikeston about 5 PM or so. I'll be there around 5 or 6. Depends on whether I take the scenic route, and whether I get out of my office on time. If it works out, we may go to Lamberts for dinner. Then again, I may just choke something down fast and work on my routing. I'm staying at the Days Inn.

I'll see you and Darrell in Sikeston sometime Thursday.

Matt
I will be arriving Thursday but not until around 7 or 8 pm. I will be at work until around 5.

See you guys there.

Hey Guys,

I'm planning on popping down to Wilmington to meet all of you. When do I need to be there?

Jeff,

Most folks should be across the finish line by 3 PM, but it may take longer than that for the 24 hour participants to collate and turn in their rally packs to the scorers.

If anyone else is in the Wilmington area and wants to say hi, ya'll stop by the Greentree Inn.

I will be at the finish with ALL possible points by 11 am. Ready for a cold one. :yahoo: Ok Im a little full of sh@t Today

Saturday is my birthday, so I might just plan to meet you all Sat. afternoon around 15:00 for a cold one or two. Then I join the family for an early birthday dinner afterwards, maybe Hooters!

:)

Oh, don't say Hooters around the rally! Evidently they were supposed to be partial sponsors and a couple Hooters girls were to be bartenders or something to that effect. We heard just today that they bailed and the Rally Master is VERY PO'd.

Can I go to Hooters, too!... with your family? (That just don't sound right....).

How about.

Can I go to Hooters with a bucket of water. :yahoo:

Does that sound better?

Count me in. Skip the rally banquet, head to Hooters. Have Bucket, Will Travel! I feel the need to check out some perky...wings.

The Rally packs are in, my preliminary route is set. READY TO ROCK! Should be a nice weekend for riding through the sunny Southeast! :yahoo:

I'm sad to report that I withdrew from the competition after a dismal performance on the first day. I was toast. I didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of competing for a win, let alone even finishing without being time barred. So I decided to save the 500 more miles down (in 7 hours) and 900 miles back home the next day on Sunday, as well as keep the gas and motel money in my pocket.

The first day was gorgeous, and the ride was actually quite fun. The bonus locations took us to some interesting places. When I stopped riding at about 1:30 AM to get my "rest bonus", the writing was on the wall... I probably would have a hard time making the finish line within the allowed time. I was just too far north and west. No time left to collect bonuses, just try to rest for 4 hours, then high tail it from west central TN to Wilmington.

Common sense over-rode my dignity. I really wanted to just finish, but it was going to be very tough to get there without pushing really hard. So I called the Rally Master, withdrew and rode home. The ride home was very pleasant and easy. But I was still toast.

It was pretty well thought out (the rally in general, certainly not my plan/execution) and I'd recommend anyone who likes lots of short hard rides back to back to give it a try. It really could be a lot of fun. But you have to be prepared to make VERY good time through lots of small towns and secondary roads if you want to try to win.

Maybe next year.

FJRocket.

You are a Rally Masters dream come true.

You made a smart choice based on your fatigue, AND you called before going home.

Good on ya for smart thinking and a great attitude.

Its nice to here things like this. I did the same thing that FJRocket did in the MN1000 last year and felt terrible about it. My expectations were fairly hi. Thanks for the encouragement. I did learn from my experience though and finished the second rally I was in. And enjoyed it very much.

Mike, it's REAL easy to be hard on yourself after riding a rally. Even if you won the damn thing.

Something I learned last year: I do my best when I'm having the most fun.

For me that was the Cal 24. I was just loping along doing my thing, and even though I'd chosen a significantly whacked out plan, and had some initial apprehension about it, I finally just trusted myself and realized that no matter how costly this choice might be, I was having FUN and that was ALL that mattered.

So good on ya for finishing the next one with lessons learned. I bet you had a pants load of fun.

Rock on Mike, ROCK ON!

Good on ya Matt! You made a good choice and you'll ride again another day! I still can't believe you guys were attempting that. Did Darrell finish? I don't see his name on the list?
No, Darrell and I withdrew at the same time. We were doing the same route up through the rest period.
