As a few folks that I met at WCR knew, my Zumo 550 touchscreen failed, leaving me GPS-less. So I have a new navigation system ...

Pen and paper - how quaint.

I did manage to get the Zumo to function as a location device, by disconnecting the malfunctioning touchscreen, so at least it's somewhat useful.

Many thanks again to those who tried to help me with tools.

You can replace your digitizer screen... either buy a digitizer or LCD and digitizer assembly. Some of the digitizers only were undersize by nearly 2mm and I caused some grief to those vendors, word spread fast among them and some are listing the size as 79 x 65 mm. This is OEM size. The concern I had was the undersize ones would barely seal with the rubber gasket around the screen on the front cover. Although from what I hear, none have leaked. Order from ebay and you should have it in 10 days. It only takes a short time to replace, and way cheaper than sending it in to Garmin for $150.

The other thing you might try is to remove the front cover and clean all around the gasket. Fine dust accumulates at the bottom of the screen and can perhaps cause inadvertent "button pushes" on the bottom buttons...... I cleaned mine, bought me a month or so, but the digitizer eventually failed.

I tried taking it apart and cleaning it, but that didn't help. I ordered the digitizer last night. It might take a bit longer to get it in Canada but I figure by the end of the month I should have it fixed.

I still have my trusty 2610. but the maps are more expensive to update than a recent refurb Roadmate 1212 was through 1daysale.com ($35). i'm trying it out but it wouldn't last in the weather like the 2610 can.

My 2730, along with my Lifetime Map Prescription, will find a place in my Jetsonmobile someday.
