my solution for getting ride of the BUZZZZZZZZ

Thank you for all the suggestions....I have come to the following game plan

Install

1. A Power Commander

2. Gonna use Dale Walkers mapping in which he has specifically mapped to used in cordinationwith his new his 4-2 header system .....You have to buy the headers to get the map, which this leads to #3. Using his mapping in combo with his exhaust system Dales claims you should expect a minimum of 6 more HP...

3. install Dale Walkers 4-2 header with Holeshot black cans.........I think the black cans would look really kwel with the black wheels and give it some personality or should I stay with the polished silver?.... (06 Silver AE) Looking good rates 2nd to getting rid of the BUZZ

4. install High Performance air filter & NGK Iridium CR8E1X spark plugs....

5. Grip Puppies

I'd appreciate suggestions or input especially from those familiar first hand with the Dale Walkers Claims & his stuff...

Even if the buzz is still there,,,,,,I'm relying on the sound of the pipes and the increase in performance to help keep me distracted...

I'm getting ready to try a custom averaged map using the Wally map and the Holeshot map to see how it works. The Wally map runs cooler, and reduces the buzz better, but is rich as a bitch, and has poor top end horsies compared to the HS map. I'm working on a blend of the two.

It's funny, coming from 17 years on Kawasaki's I think the FJR is smooth as silk.

Given the choices, I'd go with Dale Walker's set up. I spoke to him on the phone a few years ago about some carb tuning on my ZZR and he's very friendly and helpfull.

I think you should do EVERYTHING you've planned, to try getting ride of the buzzzzzzz. Just don't expect it to actually work. Not totally, anyway. But you'll have a REALLY COOL FJR when you're done!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget the TBS. That does a lot to get rid of the buzz.

Did you run Wally's map without the Holeshot system?

or go straight to a PCIII, holeshot & Dale's map from stock?

I have my PCIII and plan on running Wally's map (installing Friday or Saturday)

My plan was to go with the Holeshot system and switch to Dale's map when I have the time to install the new exhaust system. Your post & experience has me wondering if a Dyno session will be in store for me as well?

Might be hard to do in Italy (Moving there in October)

Right now I have to do a lot of 15-25 MPH roads on my daily commute. The stock low speed hesitation is what I was trying to fix or improve on.

I've run the Wally Map with stock exhaust and D&D muffs, the D&D map, then after getting the header, I've run:

1)Holeshot map

2)MKnewman modified HS map

3)Wally map

4)then all 3 with stock muffs on the header

Now, using the map compare and after averaging, and the HS muffs back on, I'm gonna try the new map this weekend. The dyno runs are for power at rpm settings only-the Wally map was done searching for a perfect 13:7 to 1 air/fuel ration using gas sampling., as a result it's still the smoothest and coolest running map available. But cool and smooth (rich) doesn't always translate to power, hence my experimentation.

I'm obviously new to this, I think I am just looking to get the bike as smooth as I can.

It is miles better than any of my previous bikes in just about all areas stock.

More power, less weight, better exhaust note won't hurt if I can do it as well in the process.

I can't think how fuel mapping is going to reduce engine vibration.

My PCIII was only $275 (not that much more $$)

Plus I got to support the forum (Sport Bike Effects)

Why I went with a PCIII (seems to be popular with other FJR riders)

Works for them, should be fine by me.

Those won't make the slightest differnce in the "buzz".

I highly recommend Tacki Grand Touring grips. For me, one of the most important farkles for reducing numb hand syndrome.

Interesting radman. I have been running Wally's map and have seen GPS verified top speeds of 154-160 mph in the last 6 months. More than some other FJRs that I know of will go. So I didn't think Wally's map was lacking in the top end hp department. One of these days, I will have to do a couple comparison runs betwen the Wally and Holeshot (non-header) maps. I didn't think they were that different, though I haven't compared them yet. Guess I need to go take a look.

I'm no techy on the subject, but when I synched the throttlrbodies and added the PClll with Wally's smoothness map, the bike got earily smooth. This was with a stock muffler, 03. I also changed out he sparkplugs to iridium so unfortunately I don't have a clue as to which one or combination made the biggest difference. I couldn't tell any loss of power either.

Radman seems to be on course for a great map.

The only negative I noticed was a drop in gas mileage from the 46 -48 range to 42-44.

The Wally map appears to run rich in the lower rpm range, then leans out where the HS map starts to pick up, taking advantage, no doubt, of the increased flow characteristics of the header. Poor being subjective-the difference isn't all that great in the top 10% of rpm range, no doubt when the cams start running out of oomph. Strangely enough, both reduce fuel flow from the stock Yami mapping from 8 thou to redline, giving credence to the rumour (or fact, I don't know) that the stock maps richen up the top end for engine longevity reasons, costing HP. I wish there was a way to post the map compare feature showing how the two cross back and forth over each other like a couple at the Ice Capades.

Haven't installed the PCIII software yet, so I might be talking out of my ass...

How about a screen capture to a JPEG? Then post the picture.

Alt - Print Screen

ANY window you can view on your PC, you can capture to the invisible clipboard by pressing the two keys together at the same time (Alt (key 1) and Print Screen (key 2) together)

Nothing will happen Visually, it is all behind the scenes.

(No bells, dings, whistles or message box pops up)

Alt-Key is on either side of the space bar

Print Screen key is typically in the upper right near the Scroll Lock, Pause-Break area of most keyboards.

Once you have the screen captured to the clipboard you just open up any image editing software (photoshop, photo paint, ifranview, MS Paint, etc...) Every PC comes with Paint.

Open a new document and paste your clipboard item in there.

You can now resize or crop the image for posting.

Looking forward to a comparison of the two maps.

One other note:

Alt-Print Screen only captures the active window.

If you have multiple windows open, you will need to click on the window you want to capture to make it the active window.

I have an 04 and have no buzz.....never really had much in the first place but here's what I suggest:

1. Sync those throttle bodies..it's easy and is the biggest bang for the buck..this will get you a decent baseline ......other mods as shown below, which I have done won't do much for any additional buzz issues...most of the time buzz is from a throttle sync issue ( asssuming it's not a Harley) ...or loose motor mounts. Again, buzz is a relative term...for the most part the FJR is smooth as silk when compared to most other rides.

2. I have a PowerCommander, Dale Walker slip ons and a K&N filter..I use the map #2 (?) ...which is specifically for this combination....power delivery is better and so is throttle response. Additionally, warm up is quicker and my gas mileage has not suffered ( low to mid 40s) . A friend of my is using the Wally smoothness map and his gas mileage dropped to mid 30s....of course, mileage is based a lot on personal habits but you get the point

My averaged map works pretty sweet. Gotta go fix the brakes on another members Feej right now, but I'd call the combo a success. Time will tell, but the ride home (city-35mph, county-45mph, and freeway-70-95mph) showed 0 hesitation, 0 surge, low vibes, plenty-o-power, and nice transition from altered area to dyno established area. PCIII software rocks!
