It started for me with a 400 mile ride to Hot Springs on Friday. It was a nice ride about 65 deg overcast but no rain. I arrived at the Rally hotel about 4:30 and found most already there. I checked in with George Z. went and registered at the hotel and packed everything into my room.

George had told us for the odometer check we would all be following him to the resturaunt and do OD check at the same time. So we all take off riding in a group following when we stopped at an intersection for a main rode. When we started I saw a truck coming and did not relize he was going to turn so I quickly tried to stop and found that because of the dip in the pavement there was nowhere for my foot and over I went. Yes dumped the FJR in front of all 25 riders right in the middle of the OD check. Luckily there was no real damage and a couple of guys helped me right the FJR and we were off to finish the OD check.

It all started at 7:00 am Saturday morning George gave out the rally packs and the rally flags which were Rubber chickens. the largest bonus was 1,000,000,000 point for turning in GPS and computer George said Old School so most opted for that bonus. We quickly tried to plan the winning route without GPS or Computer and at 8:05 I was off to my first bonus in El Dorado AR. this was a timed bonus had to be there by 11:00 am. Which I made with about 30 MIn. to spare. Then I was off to the local HIgh School were they had the second bonus on my list a pic at the Arboetum(something like that).

After bagging this bonus I thought to check my phone and saw messages from multiple family from across the country and new there was trouble. I called my wife to find out my Grandmother had passed that morning. So at this time I dont know what I am going to do. Quit and head home, Go back to hotel, So I called George and told him of my news. He said there was no shame in packing it in and kind of advised it being concerened that I could not concentrate on riding. I told him that I would either call him or see him at the check point. I needed to decide what to do.

So I started riding toward the next bonus and also back toward hotel. I went to the AR museum of Nat. Resources and go a Pic of my chicken in the museum. At that time I decided I was going for it and just concentrated on bagging points. At about 11:00 am I started getting into the rain which quickly became a major downpour. Many cars were pulling off the road but I had boni to find. I headed north to Petit Jean state park and about 1.5 mile on gravel mud road to bag two more boni. I then headed for the check point and relized I had not got two easy bonuses one road kill and one we had to get a stranger to choke our chicken. I bagged those two and continued to check point. I arrived 1.5 hrs early and decided to try and get a bonus at Booger Hollow and get back to check point which worked out and I had about 20 min to spare.

So with second half rally pack in hand I headed to Mcd to plan. stayed there about 30 min. and was off for more boni. It was still raining hard as it had all day but I wanted some points so I headed northwest toward Ozark and Fallsville for my last couple of bonus befor heading back to hotel. I arrived at about 6:30 nAM. A little early but soaking wet and exhauted it was time to score and see how I did.

We gathered for banquet at about 11:00 am and George announced the finishing order and dam was I pleased with My 4 th place finish.

Thanks to George Z. He put in an incredimal amount of time and effort to make this happen.

Great report, thanks for sharing. Seems to have been some rally. Congrat's on your great performance.

Very sorry to hear about Grandma, that is tough.

Cheers to you on all. ....john

Leave it to George to find a bonus called Booger Hollow. Damn, I bet in Arkansas he could have found Butt Crack Woods and a Nipple Museum.

Great going, and condolences on your mom.

Strong performance. It's hard to not let the weather distract you, let alone family matters. Thanks for the report. My best to you and your family.

great performance and report

me deepest condolences and sympathies to you and your family on the passing to her eternal reward of Granny

let's ride safe and be careful out there,

Mike in Nawlins'

Mike, you went through Fallsville not long after I was through there. I assume you continued on to Combs before heading back to the interstate. I've actually ridden that road before in the dry, but was that incredible or what? I mean, it's completely insane with the rain, lightning and fog. And how about the sharp left-hander after Combs where the large rocks/gravel had washed down the hillside? It was like running an obstacle course at times. I was glad there was a place close by at both of those locations to get out of the rain. I'm like you, by the time I got through there I was plenty tired, but on the way back to Hot Springs I picked up the Nimrod Dam bonus. I got back to the hotel about 6:30 as well.

here are some pictures of the fun.
