I hate to admit it but I like reading the post on tire topics  . I guess because I am in the need for some new ones.

The one thing that I keep hearing over and over is that most are going through two rear tires to one front. I have a 06 with the original Metzeler’s Z6's with about 7400mi on the tires. The front is down to the wear marks and the back looks like I could get another 2k miles. Grant it with no tread in the middle the rear could be worse than it looks (but two to one). What gives?

I do like to push the corners but don't do a lot of drag racing. Is this the difference?

Where are you hearing that? I've rarely heard that.

I'ver personally read more often on this board and talking with fellow FJR riders that it's more often a 1.5 rear tires to one front ratio. That's usually my ratio.

I did burn up two rear once to a front tire, but it's because I only got 5,000 out of each rear, was in rally mode, and let the front go a bit longer than I should have and was cupped.

I wouldn't get hung up on ratios. 7,000 isn't horribly bad for the original fronts. It's in the range of normal I think. It's when I changed my Metzlers over to Avons.

I like new tires and, usually, replace both at the same time.

In an attempt to answer your question -- often tire companies provide front tires with less tread depth than the rear mates. Info on this can often be found on the tire company's web-site or brochure specs.

You're having the right hand twist problem! As you exit the corner you turn the thing your right hand is resting on fully counter clockwise until you are approaching the next corner. Repeat as you exit the corner. If you do this with enough vigor, you can replace 3 rear tires to one front tire! Try it, you'll like it!

I think you are probably right. The type of corners I really like to play in are the ones that are marked 35-40mph. You know the ones that you take at 65-70mph, come into the corner shift down a gear, exit the corner in 4th rolling on the throttle and getting ready to set up for the next corner. I'm getting all excided just thinking about it. I know some of you go fast guys would blow right on by but I do hold my own and have waay too much fun. :D

Nothing wrong with what you're doing warsw. For something different, you might try setting the speed before the corner and holding it all the way through and out the other side. With practice, ;) you may find you lose less speed going in, and even though you're not hammering the throttle as you come out, your pace is faster overall. It's called 'The Pace'.

I like the same speed range of corners, mostly 30-45 marked ones. Like Iggy, I usually manage 1.5 rears to fronts, though I have been known to push the envelope on the front. Problem is, the fronts are usually getting pretty uneven/cupped, etc. before they are actually at the wear bars. I'm a cheap ******* and like to get all of the wear out. Truth is, I suffer with crappy front tires far longer than I should.

I average 10k from the rears, almost no matter what brand. Even ME-880 Rs only got me 10k, though they resisted flat spotting the rear far longer. Oddly, the front flat spotted and was at the wear bars when the rear was.

You're wear isn't bad at all. I'd be happy if you're having fun and stop worrying about it.

At the age of 65 I hardly think I'd be one of the fast ones! I was just giving you a hard time!

Ride and have fun!

Most definately. You go, girl! To not do this is...worse than wearing white after labor day!

I changed out the factory Metzlers at 8000 miles. I would say my front was closer to worn out than the rear. My Vstrom was so light in front that the two fronts to one rear had merit. The FJR seems to apply the wear more evenly. Or maybe its the Metzlers. I went with Avons at the swap.
