My '05 windscreen suddenly will not return to the upright position. When the switch is pushed it tries to go even further down. It's almost as if there is a cam shaped action that has somehow had the lever go past it's supposed stop point and is now wanting to cycle further instead of returning to its original spot. Does this make sense? Anyone seen this before? Any ideas before I head to my favorite mechanic to help him buy a nicer house?

Is there a microswitch in the system that tells it when its all the way down (I think there is). Probably gummed up or broken.

Thanks, Mihalis, great info, however, I got lucky and the problem turned out to be broken bolts on the Rifle windscreen tuning block that came loose. No idea how this happened but my main man mechanic Mike, says the tuning block is flat and the windscreen area where it mounts has a curve so it is always under stress. Anyway, simple low cost fix. Thanks to all for the ideas.

You main man Mike is wrong. I've looked very closely at that bracket and that just is not the case. Look at it closely yourself.

There is no stress on the 1st gen rifle tuning block when fully installed. My guess would be that your bolts came loose and allowed the two brackets to hinge, which flexed and sheered the bolts.
