OK, so were are all of these well qualified volunteers with an overabundance of time? Methinks we may be discussing a moot point.

Actually, quite to the point. Get the volunteers before giving them the responsibility!

Just shoot the ones that stray! :p

If a region is collectively interested in hosting a future NAFO event (for what would be 3 1/2 years in the future) they should unify and express an interest and possible plan to become a future NAFO site.

But, put NAFO in perspective. We've had one. It was generally decided about 2 years before, but not really planned until about 6-8 months before the even. And one is scheduled for a year and a half in the future.

My advice is EVERYBODY put their effort into making the next one happen first. NAFO represents a committment by all North American FJR owners to a gathering through a concensus process. If/when that happens then the next regional group that is most organized, has the most commitment by regional volunteers, and has a general following by those in the North American FJR community will likely get it.

Until then its premature to suggest specific rules, terms, or even votes.

FJRGuy, If you're interested in a Canadian gathering I highly suggest you get with your Canadian peers that have more posts and been involved in previous NAFO/CFR/WFO/xxx committee level to help add to that consensus. Until then your suggestion does seem to be stirring the proverbial can of worms.

Sure, I've heard of cats. What about them?

". . . your suggestion does seem to be stirring the proverbial can of worms.
MIXED METAPHOR ALERT! OK, is he opening the can of worms, or is he stirring the hornet's nest? Let's be clear here, people.

Hmmm... that could explain a few things!

Again folks...

This thread is NOT about any personal ambition to be involved in hosting a future NAFO. I do hope it makes it to my region someday, and I'll be around to help if it does, but NOT the point of this thread!!! Comments on some assumed hidden agenda are really off topic.

NAFO is a great concept! The first NAFO was enjoyed by many of us (Again, thanks to the organizers for all their hard work) but I think it can be improved upon. If you care to comment on my thoughts posted, I think it could make for a good discussion that could benefit future NAFOs (If the 'benevolent dictatorship' allows it to!)

FJRGuy

I feel for your efforts to get a good discussion going here, but as put by Matt, its at the wrong time for the next event, which has already been predetermined and which had been discussed way back before WFO-5 in Reno.

For your benefit you need to know that you and I are not the people asked to discuss these issues. That is done by a rather select few, usually LD riders, but not always, as these folks get together at different LD meets during the year. They learn of different talents each possess and then capitalize on that. The results of most of the WFO's shows that this system works. 3 and 5 being the best in my opinion. Parking the bikes in a parking garage doesn't seem to provide as much mingling. 3 being the best for day rides. H. Marc had that down pat. I had to miss NAFO, :( , so I can't compare it, but I have ridden in the area and lived in Longmont for awhile and I still think 3 would have been better riding, not that Colo. Doesn't have great riding, just my opinion. Personally I think Northern California has the best riding, but July is not good, late September or October would be great, but not for those North or East.

I would recommend that you use your desire to organize a ride, gathering, event or what ever you want to call it in Canada and see how it works. The example you create could be used to present the argument in the future. Being that the next to be determined North American event, if it ever happens may be at lest 3 ½ years away, maybe? And will need to be determined, but you could have 3 yearly event in between.

If you have some good rides, I may just drop in. For me, all these events are just excuses to ride.

Did someone say Alaska?? Bears?? As far as Russia I can see it when the sun sets just right, as I have said before I love me some Sarah Palin!!! Come on up to Alaska if you want organizing a rally up would not be too hard. there are 4 FJR riders in the state and we could throw it together rather quickly. There aren't many short rides up here including the ride up. A quick note to those who haven't ridden here before we don't measure distance in miles we measure by length of trip.

Yes there are bears in Alaska these were taken on my last trip to Valdez there I was minding my own business when momma her cubs wanted to cross the road right in front of me.

Good thoughts all Blu - and I'm pleased to advise that Jeff apparently took your advice (some considerable time before it was given). Please see the CFR thread as we only have 10 spots left and trust me - we have some good rides so you should plan to drop in!

FJRGuy/Jeff is the WebMaster for this event - come and meet him and form your own opinions. I'll look forward to seeing you in Nakusp!

Last time i was in vegas i dropped my bike in Red Rock Canyon, right in front of El Jeffe and the rest of the guys.....
