Last I rode through Shaniko, the old hotel had closed, and the gas station too. Hope it reopens - that was a neat little town. The café near the hotel was cool too.

Epic day, late start but took every suggestion and byway and had a blast with Duane on several new to us roads. Rolled into John Day just after 8, tired and happy. We revised tomorrow's route, carved off east of I84 and instead staying in the box. Fewer miles, twistier roads.

Can I just say how much I love Bickleton Highway, though.

Late lunch in Union, then Duane wants a ice cream soda at the drug store fountain. We still got 200 miles to go. Rout from Sumpter to Ukiah is my new favorite, they had just paved the first 20 miles and we were the only ones out there. Deer are trying their best but so far no hits.

After an old fashioned huckleberry ice cream soda, we hustled back towards Baker City. Almost lost the rear end in gravel that was hard to see, and when I stopped to change my shorts, I noticed my front and rear's worn to the wear bars. Decided to forego the last 100 miles of twisties, as we were getting on late arrival.

Amazing day. May visit the local dealer and see what they have in stock for tires.

You've got a day and a half left Hudson...you'll make it, but won't have much tire left when you get home!

George, I've got precious little left now. Duane is squealing like a little girl on the KTM.

I'm with George, you can go well past the wear bars before you hit cord and will still have another 100-150 of slab miles left. Ride smooth and try to avoid heavy engine braking. The Baker City Yamaha dealer probably has tires in stock but you will pay a premium for them. I wish I could help because I have lots of tires that are not down to wear bars but I will not be home until Sunday afternoon.

All the law enforcement in Oregon has a manhunt out for that scofflaw RaYzerman. If you do get questioned by the local sheriff tell them that Ray is holed up in the Great White North.

In my defense, while I had a perfectly new pair of PR2s, the existing tires looked good for 2k miles. Note to self: Oregon eats tires at 2x the rate.

Ride report forthcoming.
