Hey all,

I'm leaving TOMORROW morning to head down to Townsend to check out the area. But... I forgot one minor issue. I have no place to stay!!!

Anyone know of a nice campground in the area, preferably MC oriented? Even more preferable if there's one with Internet available.

The Iron Horse reports internet access. From their website:

Othe campgrounds listed on the TOTD website:

Campgrounds

Ironhorse Motorcycle Campgrounds - the newest addition for the RV/camping crowd coming to the Dragon and Cherohala. Located just a short 30 minute ride from these two great roads, the Ironhorse offers a wide range of camping opportunities and you can even rent a tent for your stay.

Dragonfly Camp - Located 24 miles from the Dragon on US 129 south of Robbinsville. Small private campground with tent camping, bunkhouse, and apartment available.

Cheoah Point Campground - USFS campground on Lake Santeetlah. No hookups. Gravel loop.

Horse Cove Campground - USFS campground. Secluded on Snowbird Creek. No hookups. Paved access.

Santeetlah RV - located on East Buffalo several miles north of Robbinsville

smthng,

Iron Horse looks pretty good. I will take a gander at my Mad Map when I get home. If I see anything else I'll be sure to post by 6:00 est, or so.

oops, never mind... seems this thread has been answered by FJrocket. Peace FJR brethren. Be careful this weekend. Happy motoring (with the rubber side down)

If I had a little more warning I could have let you use my cabin in Cowee, just north of Franklin, NC.

Maybe next time,

Skippy

this place looks very interesting for biking campers:

Cherohala Motorcycle Resort located a couple of miles west of Tellico Plains on SR 315. And you can ride the Skyway to warm those tires in the morning.

I realize I'm too late; however, I can vouche for Iron Horse lodge. Place is really nice IMO. Internet is provided by Satelitte + wireless access point in the lodge. It gets very slow at times.

Here are some pics of the place:

My campground:

Inside the main room/dining area:

The main building. Holds the dining and lodge. Huge protector screen, big comfy couches, etc. Overhang so bikes can be parked out of the rain. Also location for the camping showers/bathrooms.

The owner lives in this house in the center. Each corner of the house is a rentable cabin. They were pretty nice.

This is one of the bunk houses. I believe there are four seperate rooms with varying number of bunks in each. Gotta love that stream. After riding for hours on Saturday, we all peeled our boots off and stood in the stream. Ahhhhh.

With all that said, this place is brand new. It doesn't have the character as T.W.O. does (in Suches, GA); however, the crowd was much less rowdy and everything was really clean. As the place ages, I'm sure the character will get better. However, I will definately return to Iron Horse in the future.

Thanks guys, I printed out this thread before I took off, so I would have it if needed. Unfortunately, I got poured on for most of my trip, so I decided I needed a real room where I could dry stuff instead of a campground. I'll definately be checking out Iron Horse for future trips, but I ended up at the Tally Ho for this one.

And how did you like the Tally Ho?

How was your scouting trip? Other than wet? I was watching the radar, thinking BUMMER.

Twas quite good. I did get quite wet, several times. I'll be posting up a post on here and on the site shortly... I'm still playing e-mail catch up and trying to do a write up of everything. But, I will say one thing now... if anyone is on the fence about getting a new set of tires before the EOM... Get some! ;)
