I recently upgraded the stem nut with the RAM ball, and happily mounted my Zumo 550. The only problem I am having is finding a switched outlet to plug in the device. In my old bike, 07 M50L, i found an empty socket in the headlight housing (probably placed for an additional light bar) which was really handy to plug in the Zumo's wires. I am having hard time to believe a bike as sophisticated as the FJR wouldn't have something equivalent, adding a power harness seems to cumbersome. My last option is to connect directly to the battery, but I am afraid of draining the battery.

Any input is welcome.

Thanks again,

Serhan.

I hooked mine up to my Blue Seas panel in the tail. You could probably use the same wires as your accessory plug in the glove box - much closer to the GPS! It is fused for 3 amps and I believe the GPS is also. Should work great.

My GPS is wired thru my Blue Sea but is constantly hot. I've never had a problem with it draining the battery leaving it on at stops. I see no reason not to wire direct to the battery. As long as you're removing it or turning it off at the end of the day.

If you want it to turn on with the bike, you could use a relay and draw the relay switching power from the headlight wires.

I wired mine stright into a switched fuse. I think I used the switched side of the horn fuse. I just puled the fuse, folded the red wire from the zumo around the one terminal and shoved the fuse back in. I made sure to do it on the hot side of the fuse so as not to draw on the fuse for power to the zumo. Its right there in the battery compartment and it comes on when I start the bike. Real claen and only had to run wire about 1 foot, I rolled up the excess and dropped in down next to the battery, Been hooked up for a year, no problems.

Great suggestions. Thanks a lot. I think i will go with the accessory plug or the horn fuse. I usually leave it on the bike for extended durations, so I prefer it to be off when the bike is turned off.

Thanks again.

Remember, if you don't intend to install heated grips, there is a power source right there for you! The factory heated grips plug is under the left side dash near the glove box. It is fused, powered with the key, and unless you have other farkles planned, should be sufficient and convenient.
