I've just upgraded my computer and am wondering what you computer users have had the best luck with for a anti-virus program. I'm trying Avast right now but it's a "trail" version. I'm running Windows XP Pro. TIA

ESET Nod32.....the best by far.

The ZoneAlarm security suite is one of the best out there. When I worked in our Internet Crimes Against Children unit, EVERY guy I ever met that taught a class was using this software. Its not free, but it will keep the bugs out.

Well, if I'm using a "shared" computer this garb does it for me..

AVG Free edition seems to work fine for my home computer.
+1 on AVG. I like AVG because it puts very little load on the system. I find AVG and Windows Defender (included in Vista, free for XP from MS) to be all you need in the way of security software.
+2 This combo works the best for me also
+3 for AVG... We did a little anti-virus shoot out at work to replace what we had been using (Trend Office Scan) which used to be good, but wasn't any longer.

We ended up picking AVG on the corporate side but I use the free stuff at home.

+4 for AVG and defender. If you want to put out some cash Nod 32 is supposed to be very good.

Also common sense goes a long way when you are trying to not get a virus.

Have you checked with your ISP? Sometimes they offer a free security suite. Cox allows up to 3 computers on my account to run full copies of McAfee.
