My next door neighbor ( a retired grade school teacher) asked me to collect his mail as he was going to Romania for about 2 months he said. It's now been 5 months and he hasn't come back.

He gave me a card with his e-mail and I have sent a couple of e-mails with no response yet. I checked & after 3 months U can get permission to stay 3 more months. So next month after six months if he hasn't come back I guess I'll file a missing persons report with the police. Quite a mystery .....

Too many unknowns, but yeah, I'd be concerned already and looking hard for contacts. Info he left? Relatives, contacts, the e-mail address, telephone/text number, return addresses on mail, an internet search for relatives???

Maybe the police can go through his bank statements and narrow down his locale?

He either works for the CIA or is nuts. Why people do these things is beyond me. Do you have any Idea why he would go there? Since he hasn't responded to any of your email request I would pursue our Romanian Ambassador. We must have one. Don't wait better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck,

Dave

Let it go. He may just be enjoying an extended break in a beautiful, inexpensive setting.

Do you really want to set assorted governments in motion? Think about it.

If it were your son, it would make sense to check for your own peace.

Just keep his mail for him, like he asked. And if he ever comes back, he will have a story to share.

During my adult life I have been to every continent except Antarctica and never spent more than a month in any one country. Exception is 13 months in Korea during the Vietnam war. If this was my neighbor I would have some basic understanding as to why he was going to Romania for two months? Is he visiting relatives, touring other neighboring countries as well or specifically what is the mission. Who is paying the monthly bills? Who can I contact there if I need to get in touch with you? Have you ever been to Romania before this trip? How are you getting to the airport? What is your return flight info?

If my neighbor asked me to look after his mail and keep an eye on his property, I would feel obligated to get as much info as possible before accepting the request. It's kinda like lending money to relatives....If and when this person returns, I would let them know it was irresponsible of them to ask you to not keep you informed of their extended absence!!!!

I picture him all bowed up with a hot Romanian gymnast with a giant mole on her face. Smoking hot except for the mole and slightly oversized teeth. I hope he’s okay Marcus.

What's wrong or "nuts" about international travel? A lot of us enjoy it.
Nothing wrong with international travel. I went to Rome a couple of years ago. Just Romania wouldn't make my top ten list for sure.

JSNS,

Dave

Two words. Romanian gypsies...

A call to the embassy or consulate may be warranted. Least they can do is check if he extended his visa..

Was he riding his FJR over there? Is so, he's probably having so much fun, he lost track of time.
