Neighbor's two pit bull looking dogs live out in their privacy-fenced back yard, residential neighborhood, houses fairly close together...one of the dogs barks incessantly (woof woof woof woof woof, half-sec pause, woof woof woof woof woof, half-sec pause, woof woof woof woof woof, etc.) anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours at a time without stopping for more than a few seconds, usually in the middle of the night. For example, Friday morning it went on from 3:00 AM to 4:00 AM. This morning from 5:30 AM to 5:55 AM, barking again right now at 7:23 AM. Happens like that several nights each week, sometimes multiple episodes in a night. Dog's owner won't do anything about it (says they only bark when someone approaches their house, "they are guard dogs." Police won't do anything about it. Other neighbors are annoyed also, but nobody seems willing or able to do anything about it...apparently past appeals to the guy have led to big arguments, him threatening the person who complained, etc., so everybody just lets it slide, they say the guy is crazy. On Tuesday night, for example, he reportedly brandished a gun to a group of teenagers that were doing something he didn't like, not sure about details, but according to another neighbor the police were called, came out to his house, and did nothing about it. As far as I can tell, Miami-Dade police are useless for just about anything.

I don't want to poison or really harm the dog....Any ideas?

Appeals to the police are more useful up here in DuPage County. I'm at a loss as police are usually the form of last resort beyond personal appeals.

Once you get past the police with no satisfaction with no results...the confrontations usually turn violent or some felony is committed. It sounds like things have ratcheted up to a dangerous level with this lunatic owner...tread carefully. Don't wanna see you dead or in jail.

Offer to train the dogs. Buy two of those collars that have the metal probes with a control unit. When the dogs start to bark you zap them and they quit. They start again you zap them. If that doesn't work attach the a collar to the owner and zap him every time the dogs bark.

:D

Chocolate xlax just prior to when they will be brought into the house. Simple with a toss over to the yard where they can enjoy the new found meal.

The owners will get the idea after a 2'nd or 3'rd indecent.

I don't have a good answer for you other than suggesting you move somewhere else.

But I do have a story ;-)

We had a similar situation with a tenant who would let their dogs run free in the neighborhood, pooped on other peoples porches, play fetch with them in the middle of night, etc. Due to tenant protection laws, we needed evidence to take them to court and be able to evict them before their lease ran out. However, none of the neighbors were willing to come to court with us. They called animal control, but since it was after hours and they claimed they had to witness the problem animals, and told the neighbors to call the the sheriff. The sheriff told them to call animal control. Nor would the neighbors file a police report. They would call the police anonymously, but refused to stand behind their statements.

Unfortunately we live 2000 miles away from our unit and weren't able to witness it ourselves.

Two neighbors solved the problem by moving. Eventually their lease ran out and we didn't let them renew. Unfortunately it doesn't sound like you have that option.

Good luck .. I'm not sure what sort of recourse you have. A city ordinance (quiet hours? animal control?) is probably being broken, but without the local constabulatory to enforce them, even taking them to court wouldn't help you.

(I wish I could get our local police to do something about the jackasses with loud bikes and trucks that drive down our street).

:lmaosmiley: LMAO dwh!! :lmaosmiley:

That's a great plan :yahoo: But, don't you know chocolate is "bad" for dawgs!! You'll have to use regular Exlax.

Alternately dd2k, you could slip the dogs a Valium or 2, kidnap dognap them and turn `em in to a shelter.

Seriously, it's a shame that people like this guy can get their way by being "crazy", and police/officials are indifferent. I don't advocate violence, but I'd be sure if I had a word with Mr. Crazy about the situation that I'd go armed in case he pulled any weapon on me. That'd give me an opportunity to "take care of the situation" another way. Jezz sayin'......

Tape record it five nights in a row. Document it. Go to court and get an injunction. Turn it over to the DA. Are your other neighbors pissed too? You need some evidence bub. Good luck. I know it must be driving you nuts.

I don't think this ******* cares what you think...so confronting him armed is not going to do you any good except maybe get you killed or him killed. Do you really want to kill him and ruin your life with legal hassles? Obviously the police for some reason are unable to follow through on a noise complaint...

...I think, unfortunately you may may to go sneaky with the ex lax...

or you may have to voiice your complaint in person to the sergeant expressing how totally douched up this situation is...maybe accompanied with video with a clock running in the view screen...to show the time and extent of barking.

Sorry...it's not much...but I hear the frustration in your post.

I have a similar problem, two Shelties, pre-programmed robot dogs. Product of their breeding, bark, bark, bark, never stop barking. Barks at blades of grass blowing, barks at me in my back yard, barks all the time day and night.

They dont EVER stop barking for long.

I'v never wanted to kill something as bad as I do these two dogs. I'm venting here, I wont kill them, maybe just a flesh wound! or use my do yourself home use dog labotomy kit. :)

Good luck on your quest as I'v had none!

Maybe I should iterate abit more, These are my neighbors dogs, not mine.

My mother had that problem in her neighborhood. They filed a complaint with Animal Control, not the PD (A video with a time and date stamp might bolster your point). There was an incident report sent to the owners and they had to respond to Animal Control. At least that way there is a "paper trail" of the problem if it excalates into an actionable case with the County DA. I doubt the PD can do much about it.

Now....exlax inserted into meat balls. That might work, too.

Maybe it is different in FL, but arond my neck of the woods Animal Control is in charge of barking dogs, not the PD.

Call animal control. They will do more about it than the PD will.

Don't hurt the pups, that will land your *** in jail. Don't hurt or threaten the owner as that will get your *** in trouble too.

The 'cure' I'm told by "the dog groomer" is to replace unwanted behavior with wanted behavior. In your case: you teach your Shelties to 'bark on command'. Then -- without the command they won't bark.

Simple, huh...?

Someone once told me (when discussing similar, dog/human, issues): "The superior intellect will win-out." :)

Watch "The Dog Whisperer" -- he'll show you how to do it.

Good luck.
