Well said Mike, you have a way of cutting through the Fog.

Couldn't agree more, for me it's never been about the swag or the T-shirts.

All I'm looking for is a good road to ride and the opportunity to hang out with the people that " Get It".

After some discussion with dcarver this past weekend I followed his advice....no fainting, please....and read through what you guys are doing.

:clapping: :yahoo: :clapping: :yahoo: :clapping: :yahoo: :clapping:

It reminds me of the way things used to be....a couple of people post the idea and wait for the response. A central point to gather, make your own reservations (IIRC, after a certain number there was a slight "rebate"), ride with new friends and enjoy one's self.

We talked about many of the enduring friendships that were kindled from the first WFO adventures and my heart was warmed. There actually were a few from the fist gathering that attended "Gathering of the Clans": Ijuggle, Highlanders, welvbkn, MCML and myself...all from the Class of '03!

I wish and hope that you have the same success. It really is about the people and the riding. Thanks for relighting that bonfire with your epic gathering.
Mikee, that's EXACTLY the reason I'm throwing down and attending NERDS. I *still* have no clue what I'm riding out there - and it really does not matter. Peeps have offered bikes, houses, food n' grog. Tell me it doesn't get better than this? :yahoo:

Wow, how did I miss that? Just found out the routes have been posted. Woo hoo, what a selection.... oh what to do, so many choices. Nice job, guys!!

I signed up a while ago, and made hotel reservations for two.................but might be arriving as one. I too forgot about the T-shirt deadline (I have way too many also) I'm hoping there might be a few extra stickers laying around :)

I'm totally psyched about the routes!! They look amazing!! Looking at running the 6 gaps, and Mt. Washington runs.......as well as a trip to Ben & Jerry's.

Sorry Scoops, I have a room to share, but I just can't meet your criteria.

Anyone want to spilt room cost send me a PM.

Hey gang,

When you are perusing the ride routes you may notice that a couple of them go up north within spitting distance of the Canadian border.

None of the routes actually go into the GWN, but if you think that you might want to make a side trip onto the foreign soil, remember that you'll need to bring along your passport. Also, DJB tells me that you should contact your insurance carrier and get a Canadian insurance ID card. I had never heard of this before but apparently it must be an original and not a faxed copy.

If anyone is planning to share rooms, make sure you call the Commodore's and change the number of people in the room. The per-room rate includes breakfast for each person so the costs are based on the number of people in the room. They might get "cranky" if you try to get breakfast for two people but are only paying for one person in the room.

Room Status Update...

I just got off the phone with the manager at the Commodore's Inn. As of today, all 45 rooms that we originally reserved in our group block have been taken. :yahoo: The manager had 2 additional rooms available from other cancellations and offered to add them to our block.

So, if you have any interest at all in staying at the Commodore's Inn for NERDS and you have not made your reservations yet, you are just about out of time. Once those last two rooms are gone, you'll only be able to get a room if there are cancellations.

If you end up sleeping under a sheet of plastic in the parking lot, don't say I didn't warn you...

How the hell did you find me??? But seriously, I'll be at Elmore S.P. all week (under a yellow tarp) I hear it's very nice!

You those of you planning to attend the pre-NERDS campfire. I just posted a new topic with a poll to help us decide on some of the details for the campfire. I'm posting the link in this thread because I know some people are monitoring it.

I spoke to the business manager at the local Yamaha dealer in Burlington, VT (Roadside Marine) and they have graciously offered NERDS attendees a discount. It's based on the total amount you spend at the dealer and it applies to anything you buy there (tires, parts, accessories, clothing, service, etc.)

If you spend between $200-$300, you get a $25 discount.

If you spend between $300-$400, you get a $35 discount.

If you spend more than $400 you get a $45 discount.

I originally asked them if they would be willing to offer special deals for tire and oil changes, but I couldn't give them any specific commitments, so they were a little reluctant.

They do not typically stock a large selection of tires. If you are coming from a distance and think you might need a tire change, I would suggest you call ahead and make sure they have the tires you want in stock. (Be forewarned, even with the discount, you will pay more for tires at the dealer than you would if you bought them online)

The Local Dealers page on the NERDS website has a list of the dealers in the area for all the major brands. Roadside Marine is the closest Yamaha dealer to Stowe, so if you're here for NERDS and have any unexpected needs for parts or service, keep it in mind.

Man this sounds like an Awesome event. I wish I could attend. I love Stowe Vermont. But all my paid time is used up so maybe next year. I hope everyone enjoys riding in Vermont. It is my home state and I love riding there. I could show you alot more fun roads then have already been listed. Have a great time everyone. Ride safe.

Hey Folks!

For any of you distant NERDS coming in that might be interested in flying in and renting a bike for the weekend, I received the following email from an outfit in Burlington, VT (the only actual city in the state). Note that I did receive this unsolicited, and I have no direct knowledge or experience with this outfit, so Caveat Emptor.

Hi There, I just heard about your rally and wanted to let you know about my motorcycle rental operation in South Burlington, Vermont. I'd be happy to offer your attendees a 10% discount on any rental. Please check out our web site : MotoVermont or give us a call: 802-860-6686. We can also deliver bikes to the rally grounds if need be.

You guys are going to love riding in Vermont! Have fun!

Eric Milano

Wow. The stuff you find out on the Internet...

I work in Burlington everyday and probably drove past this place a thousand times. I never even knew they existed.

I already have a guy I work with interested in splitting a day's rental on a 1200GS just to try it out. (gotta taste the kool-aid to see what the fuss is all about)

Ed.

There is a tire dealer and mechanic at Gillies Sales on the East Montpelier Rd otherwise known as Rte 14 with decent prices and it's closer to Stowe than S. Burlington. They usually have a good stock on hand and know FJR's, they work on mine. I think I'll drop in, don't usually do crowds, but this sounds interesting, and I'm a local.

I can definitively say that the Routes will be posted tomorrow. :yahoo: Everything is ready 'cept for a few last minute tweaks.

Each route will have a .gdb and a .gpx file available, as well as a link to the route in Google Maps for our "GPS-less" friends who'd like to print the map and directions on paper.

In addition to the individual route files, we'll also have a "master" route file that includes all of the routes. (also in both .gdb and .gpx formats)

As a teaser, here's the list of Routes we have laid out:

  1. Six Gaps and a Notch
  2. Four Gaps and a Notch
  3. Villages and Sweepers
  4. Mt. Washington
  5. Vermont's North-east Kingdom
  6. Islands and Northern Vermont
  7. Grand Isles and Northern Dack's
  8. Art's 'Dacks Twisty Butt
  9. A'dacks Twisty
  10. Vermont Tourist
  11. Sixteen Bridges

Check the NERDS Website tomorrow for all the details.

Ed.
