Greetings all,

The ugly: :  :ranting2: :realmad: blink: I am coming off a '04 connie that cost me $400 a year to insure with twice the minimum coverages. So far the quotes I am getting(online) are in the $1400-$1500 range. WTF? is it really that much? I am looking at minimum coverage and $1ooo deductable! So far have looked at Markel (current policy) and GEICO.
Try Progressive. I forget the exact amount, but better than you're finding so far.

Progressive is $244 over esurance and I have a full coverage policy on my F350 dually with them!

Geico is good for cars not bikes. I had been with Geico for years when I started back riding in 2001 and they wanted a fortune to insure my bike. I've been insuring my bikes with Progressive and can't seem to beat them. I pay $500/yr full coverage for my '07 FJR. I also just switched my 3 cars to Progressive after doing an online quote with them and going from $1500/yr with a family "friend" agent to $740/yr for all three cars!!!

I use Skyway's Derlin sliders and think they look good.

This shows how different insurance and circumstances can really be. I live in Ca. and just the opposite is true in my case. I've had State Farm on my 4 wheelers and no one can beat their price on my cars and they want way too much for a bike. And also State Farm will only insure bikes if you already have your cars and trucks insured with them already. They have no roadside assistance or towing for bikes and cover no parts or riding gear on bikes. I have one bike insured with Progressive at a great rate but they wanted too much for the FJR and that was even with the two bike discount. Geico has all other companies beat in my area by $200 a year for my FJR. And Geico was alot more for my vehicles, cars, than most any company I got quotes from. I currently pay $400 a year for 100/300/100 and 100 deductable for the FJR. They have towing, roadside assistance, standard $1000 on riding gear and custom parts. I had that increased for just a few dollars. Personally I would go with the Skyway sliders, either material. PM. <>< :D

YIKES!!!! How the hell do some of you guys afford insurance??? I have my BIKES ONLY with Progressive...2 FJRs and my Derbi. Full coverage, year-round (no winter layup period), 100k/300k, $500 deductible on comp and collision, I'm 45 with one speeding ticket and one at-fault (car) accident in the last 3 years. My total annual premium is $457 FOR ALL THREE BIKES!! I'll be dipped in doody if I can figure out why the '05 feej is less than the '04 (no ABS on either), but with premiums like this, I'm NOT going to call and start asking questions. Maybe it's an Ohio thing...I dunno. But suddenly, I feel verrrry fortunate. :good:

Sierra Vista...I miss that place. Any chance military? I have used USAA for years, but I am not sure about bike rates since I have not owned in a while. (hopefully that will change...no bikes now, just snow plows here in Utah) I just know that when I got a truck in Sierra Vista my insurance went up by almost three times. It was considered a high risk since Chevy is so popular south of the boarder. They were having a lot of trucks finding their way down south. I am not sure if this applies for the bike or not.

Progressive Ohio rates are less than Texas, and way less than Cali.

I got a quotes for all three states for 4 bikes, one Jeep, and one motorhome, no lienholders, year round coverage,

three different policies. Ohio was the cheapest state.

Much depends on the city, county, state, your credit, how far you drive to work and a whole load of other variables the insurance companies make up.

You gotta remember, they're only in it for the money.

I have allstate and I'm paying about $535 a year on the FJR and thats for full coverage.

To my credit though, I have 5 cars, 1 other bike and my home owners with them as well, so multi policy discount comes into play big time.

Interesting reading - kinda tells you how messed up the insurance game is in this country  I checked around, and ended up with Geico - have an 05 with full coverage ($500 deductible - 300k liability and 100k property damage) and pay $458 a year. Progressive was 2x that premium!!

Oh, and I believe the correct cc is 1297..... ;) Jay

Not military, but I do work for the VA.

You have to consider single status for some. Wifes tend to have a governing effect on the right wrist.

First, congrats on the new bike! :clapping:

Second, no sliders on my '07 (yet). Just keep in mind if you go down, sliders help, but even with sliders you'll still be buying (or fixing) plastic and other parts. Main purpose is to protect the "frame" and most any sliders (not TOG's!), will do that. :)

Third. Ever wonder how Geico manages to aire so many of those cute TV green varmit commercials? Every policy owner helping to pay for them, that's how!

I suggest getting quotes from:

1. Dairyland Insurance

2. Hertiage (this one is cheaper yet, if you're AARP member)

3. State Farm

I'm paying less than $400/yr, full (max) coverage with Dairyland. No fuss, no muss. (And under $500 for full coverage on my Busa with State Farm.) B)

In Delaware, my insurance with Foremost is $430/year for 100K/300K and a $250 deductible for full coverage on my 07 AE. I have to pay another $50/year for my second bike without colision due to the way multibike discounts work out. I also got a quote from Dairyland and they were $390/year but I stuck with Formost since I have a many year history with them which I think counts for something and I would have had to lie to Dairyland about my son living with me. Although I think Dairyland is usually the cheapest, I do have a problem with one of their business practices: they base the rate on all of the people at your address even it they do not have a motorcycle license so if I tell them the truth that my 23 year old is in my house, they would have quoted a much higher rate since "even though he has no motorcycle license, he still has access to the keys".
