Smooth,

I am in Austin. Did a quick look on Craiglist and there are a couple of bikes you should look at:

https://austin.craigslist.org/mcy/3048770095.html an '07 for 7750 or BO this bike has a couple of upgrades. The price leaves you several thousand in your pocket for farkling.

https://austin.craigslist.org/mcy/3011245347.html This one is in San Antonio. A little high for an 08. Worth a look though. Its sitting on carpet in the garage - this ones been taken care of. My dog doesn't even get carpet. I would offer in the 8000 range for this one.

There are a couple more to consider as well an 06 in Austin with 60k on the clock at 5000. An 07 in Fredericksburg with 26k on the clock.

That 09 at the dealership is way overpriced. The 12 you can likely get them lower but thats up to you.

Joe
Figured the 09 was. Looks like the 2012 for me.

Thought I'd chime in here. You need to talk to James (sales manager) at SA Yamaha. Printing out this thread probably would help maybe with some price matching. Those guys are tops in customer service.

On another note, it's been a while since posting. Hope everybody's doing okay.

I would buy the 2012, they offered me the 2011 for $700 less last spring saying that they paid more for the 2011 because Yamaha drop there prices for 2012.

I keep my bikes for 5 years so I would not buy a new one with already 3 years depreciation (2009).

My 2¢ ;)

I had this exact same decision back in April.

I wheeled my dealer to $11K incl everything (+tax is all). So I went with the AE for that price as they were not willing to budge much on the '12. I do not regret it one bit. Good luck!

Forgot; I got handlebar risers chucked in the deal as well. Not saying that's a lot but say'n you have room to deal on these leftovers. Mine had to be uncrated so I actually bought it sight unseen. Purrfect upon delivery with 0 miles :) and knowing I saved a chunk of cashola = a happy "Speed"

Just a side note from me...

Im also 5'6 with a 29" inseam and went with a Corbin seat. If you do some reading, its a love/hate relationship with Corbins, But I love mine. It will lower you 1/2-3/4" from low position on stock.
Which corbin seat, where could I go to look
Well, for 2nd gen they only make one model, the modular. But there are passenger backrest options as well as the smuggler trunk. If I were you I'd keep my eye out in the for sale forum for a used one.

I have a 2007 AE and I feel conflicted about the auto clutch. ...

That said, sometimes I hate having it - especially because this bike's throttle is so abrupt and harsh. ..
I think the throttle was tamed in 2008, or at least it was on my 2008AE.

Both prices are high if you look nationally, but not bad for central Texas. I live in Austin and couldn't find an FJR at anything but list+ around here when I was shopping in late 2010. I wound up going to Tulsa and driving away a new 2008 Advanced Edition for $10500 OTD, and then payed sales tax here in Texas.

I really like the AE system myself, but many find its an acquired taste.

Before I bought my FJR I had a to test drive an ordinary FJR, and found that the high clutch effort was troublesome.

I also have a 29" inseam, and I think about lowering often, but haven't ever got around to doing it for the last 15,000 miles.

Advanced Edition? Is that what they told you AE stood for? hehe

Thanks Dan and will do that. I appreciate you taking the time and showing me the ropes on the 1300AE.

Nice.... Thanks Jim

I'm also a 29" inseam and installed the Corbin and Kouba Lowering Links. My only regret in installing the links is that I hesitated so long in making my decision to go lower. YMMV. ;)

My '09 AE electronic clutch is smooth as glass. Now I do get the old typical Yami "clunk" when going from "N" to "1st gear" mainly noticeable when cold/1st startups (warming to 2 bars does help a small percentage).

Well folks, looks like the 2012 for me. I appreciate all the advice, opinions, support and education on the FJR1300.

Thanks, ;)

It's like when my g/f asks me when we go out, Steak or Lobster tonight? either decision I don't see as a bad thing.

Now go take delivery of that bad boy!
