What would be the forum's consensus on a fair dealer price for a NEW 2012 FJR? I have a buddy that is interested in trading his '03 Triumph Trophy for something newer. We have a local dealer with said bike on the floor. The owner said he would take $11,500 (and i'm sure he would) for it. I think that's a little high for a 4 year old bike.

My main concern with buying it would be this; how will an insurance company view its value? If you're paying cash and aren't worried about full coverage insurance no big deal. However if you opt to borrow the money for it or choose to take full coverage insurance and heaven forbid anything happen how much will an insurance company pay out on it?

Not trying to be a naysayer, I just recently went through a bunch of BS when my wife wrecked her bike and it's made me far too aware of how insurance companies look at things.

Seems high to me for what we see new '14 A models selling for at times already. A lot of improvements to be had there as well just as with the 2nd gen at its time! On another note, that Trophy he has sure is a nice bike too. I had a green '02 several years ago after riding the old C10 Concours for several years. Now you talk about an upgrade, that was one!!!!

Just for kicks, in my zip code for this bike. Admittedly this is considering it a used vehicle.

As with anything in life though true value is what you feel it's worth.

And the 2012 has all of the gradual, subtle refinements that took place during the evolution of the Gen2 while still retaining the Awesome Cobalt Blue Color. In my opinion, the 2012 is probably the most desirable Gen2 of all.
+1How has the bike been stored for 4 yrs?

Is dealer supplying new battery, tires, brake hoses and fluids?

Will Yamaha still offer YES if owner wishes to purchase?

Why has it sat for 4 yrs? Was it a demo bike? Any significant mileage?

Ensure purchaser gets all the bits, owners manual, bag liners, the body colored covers when bags are removed, extra key/lock, etc etc. Bikes that sit are often a target for 'borrowed' items.

Just a few thoughts to consider when dealing on price.

The $11500 price seems way too high to me. I bought my new leftover 2012 in Oct 2014 from a dealer in Clearwater FL, and the unit price was $9692, $10534 OTD. I felt like I got a pretty fair deal on that one. It's a year and a half later, so an identical bike should be much less that $11.5K.

I agree with that! Cobalt Blue with silver wheels is my favorite combination. When my '06 got totaled, there was only one choice for me for a new replacement. I'm glad I was able to find a leftover '12.

I have no idea how my bike was stored while it sat awaiting an owner. In it's crate? Assembled on a showroom floor somewhere? I have no idea, but it was in perfect shape when I picked it up, not a mark on it.The dealer didn't replace anything as far as I know. The battery that came in the bike cranks like new. The stock Metzelers were crap anyway, so I replaced them at 5000 miles with PR2s. The brake and clutch hoses look perfect. I flushed the brake and clutch fluid at 5000 miles, and the clutch fluid looked pretty nasty. Glad I did it early.

I was able to purchase a 48 month YES contract for $389 from D&H, no problem at all.

My bike had 3 miles on the odometer when I took delivery...I assume from a test ride after assembly. It came with all the usual stuff; owners manual, spare key, bag liners, side case hole covers. I don't recall if I got the extra lock for a trunk, but I didn't really notice since I was going to mount a Givi case anyway.

That's my experience with buying a new leftover bike.

This ^^^^

Once you put any miles on the bike it's used and above is what NADA & KBB say it's worth in the market. As ETJ pointed out, if the price is all in, nothing else added, you plan on keeping the bike for some time AND you love the color combo, the deal isn't too bad. Round numbers you are going to lose a minimum of $2K the minute you leave the showroom.

Just my $.02 and worth exactly what you paid for it...

For what it's worth I bought my "new" leftover 2012 in October of 2014 for $10,599. This price included the YES warranty but did not include TTL as the bike was in Oklahoma and I am in Texas. Once TTL was paid the bike was in the $11,200 neighborhood. At that time the price was below blue book so getting a loan was not an issue.

Was that 2012 at a dealership in Muskogee? I was shopping for a 2012 at the same time and found one there listed in Cycle Trader. I called a week after I found the listing, but the bike had been sold the previous day. I was bummed to have missed out on that one, because I was going to swing down to the Dallas area to register the bike and then ride it home. The next best deal I could find was all the way down in Clearwater FL. It worked out okay though...the fly-n-ride from FL to CA was a whole lot of fun!

Picked mine (new 2012) up in Jan. for 10800, plus all the fees. For 800 more, could have gotten a 14, but Just can't do that color. Wanted the 15, and could have done it, But couldn't pass this up. She's a Beauty!
