Tech gurus,

Ok, maybe a dumb question, but I just can't seem to find the answer.

Since I have a Power Commander (O2 sensor disconnected) on my '06 set to the Wally Smoothness map, will this eliminte the need for a new ECU?

My bike is set perfectly with great throttle respnse in every gear. I also have a Two Bros exhaust. I just don't want to screw up what I've got. I live in Indiana (about 760' above sea level) and ask now because I plan on making the NAFO trip in July - the first real test of elevation for a long duration. I don't want to get all the way out there and have issues. I have traveled through the Smokies with no issues at all.

I had no problem on my bike in the Smokys, but I did in the Rockies. I did have my ECU changed, but after learning more about the problem, I think you can ride "around" the problem (regardless of whether a Power Commander fixes the problem or not). I think if you change throttle position more than a certain amount within a given period of time, the problem will not occur. You might want to do a search. I mostly noticed the problem when going down a long steep mountain. Because I had the throttle basically closed for a long period of time, the ECU did not adjust to the altitude. You might do a search as there was an explanation of how this works.

Basically this is what I understand. The new ecu has very little to do with co settings in the overall sense and everyting to do with compensation for altitude changes with little throttle input-steady cruising uo/down mountain. Somewhere here there is a more in depth description of the throttle input part of the equation. You will need the new ecu to take care of this 'altitude sickness' and the pc has nothing to do with this. Search for 'ecu recall' 'alitude sickness' and the like and you will fing pages.

Thank you. Makes sense. And at the price of free - it is worth the recall rate. I definitely don't want anything to go wrong electronically at NAFO, especially when I have the opportunity to correct it before it even happens..

I just didn't want to mess up a good thing and with the decrease in gas mileage I have been hearing from those who made the change, I was very skeptical.
