I'm leaning toward the Coachman right now. We'll be in there by noon or early afternoon. Then Hope can go poke around the outlets right across the street and I don't have to go with her. Also it looks like the recomended " Bob's Clam Hut" is in the mall area so we may be able to walk to it and that would raise the dinner time alchohol limit substantialy for those so inclined. I'm inclined, but only a little.

Looking forward to Dinner!

Edit to add:

I like to be able to park the bike and walk to dinner or whatever. That hotel they mentioned in Har Barbor looks like the same thing being right in town. This trip is looking awesome!

Looks like the free Island Shuttle Bus in Bar Harbor only runs JUNE 23 THROUGH COLUMBUS DAY. It has a stop right outside that hotel and would have been convenient but no biggie.

Coachman looks fine in Kittery, that would work for me. Definitely looking forward to this.

Well, now that I am officially unemployed after the hospital screwed me and another person over royally, I should have plenty of free time to ride, right?! :angry2: :angry2: :angry2:

I can be optimistic and just think of all the free time, but I'm now worried if I get a new job in the meantime that it may interfere with this ride. Although,,,,,,,,,, perhaps I could ask for clemency for those dates as I had "already booked a vacation for which I have plane tix and reservations for" ;)

If anybody needs or wants, I could put up a riding couple or a few singles at my hacienda Thursday night. I'm planning on leaving early Friday morning to get up to Kittery. Just a thought....

Anyone staying in Kittery Thursday? I think we'll start the tour at Bob's Clam Hut for dinner!
Awww, mannn!Yer killin' me, Bob!

The Bar Harbor Motel isn't technically "in-town", but is just up Rte 3 a bit, maybe a mile. Sometimes a little walk feels good after a full day's ride, and almost always after a few cocktails. ;)

Yeah you're right. Bout a mile up the road. That's good. There sure are alot of places to eat in town. Do we have a recomended seafood place in Bar Harbor?

That Bar Harbor motel is highly rated on Trip Advisor. Excellent choice.

Recommended? Yeah, any place that is open is recommended!! ;)

For the budget minded I always liked the Island Chowder house.

Not very fancy, but pretty good grub and they never hit you (too) hard for the lobstah...

DOL, Guys, I'm digging through this thread trying to find something like the nearest itinerary for the ride - where I should book rooms and where we'll be going. Possible that we could show that on the first post?

Really psyched for this ride and seeing a bunch of places I've never been to before, meeting new folks. Blocking days on the calendar to do the whole deal.

DOL, very sorry to hear about your job.

Barry,

Here's what I got so far....

Day 1: Leave Kittery at 0900, stopping point is Freeport. Dinner planned at Haraseeket Lunch and Lobster Co 4 minutes away. I'm staying at the Casco Bay Inn. ON THIS NOTE: Does anyone else want/plan to stay here so that I can email the Innkeeper and let him know approx. how many rooms we'll need? He's the only one who has responded to email in regards to offerring a group discount, so he gets my vote along with the good reviews on tripadvisor.com

Day Two: Riding over to Mae's Cafe and Bakery in Bath. Time to be determined by the group, but for those catching up with the group for a single day ride, I'd say be there around 8. I still haven't gotten feedback from the group yet as to what y'all wanna do toward the endpoint of the second day's ride- you want to see a little more on day two and stop in Rockland/Camden area for the night or see a little less and hoof it to Bar Harbor and stay for the night making Sunday's ride a little shorter for those needing/wanting to leave Sunday afternoon? POST UP!!

Day 3: Riding Bar Harbor and Acadia Nat. Park. Stopping time can be whenever y'all get tired!

In either event, if staying overnight in Bar Harbor, I'd be staying at the Bar Harbor Motel. I call top bunk, Freddie! ;)

Hope this helps, Barry! You bringing the wife? Don't worry about the job, I was really pissed off but I bet they did me a favor. Time will tell. If not, no worries, I can just buy a sheep costume and Bust will surely take me in!

Yup,

I think it is safe to make our reservations now at the above named locations. If something really bad happens and the ride were to be canceled for some reason, most hotels allow cancellations up to the day of the reservation (but you may want to ask).

Since we have no idea about numbers, and we aren't likely to be a huge group anyway, there isn't much point worrying about getting group rates. We will be running this ride early-season, and the low pre-season rates were a part of reason (other big one being lighter traffic).

BOOKED

Coachman Inn for Thursday Night

Casco Bay Inn for Friday Night

Bar Harbor Motel for Saturday and Sunday Night

When you guys are booking the Bar Harbor Motel, make sure you call them. I got the room for $69.00 a night but when trying to book it online the price was coming up about 3 times that much.

Make sure you all pack your Gerbings because its going to be chilly up on Cadillac Mountain.

Wow, looks like I shoulda checked in here first! Spent a good portion of the day researching, emailing and replying to several lodging prospects and eateries in Rockport.....

Oh well, looks like I'm just slow on the uptake, but that's ok. On to Bah Habbah, Maestro!! :yahoo:

But, just in case, here's a couple of good alternatives to keep in mind just in case the day runs longer than expected or there's a desire to stop earlier:

The Schooner Bay Motor Inn and Strawberry Hill, who was nice enough to give us a group discount at the winter rate for $79/night. Also a really good looking/interesting place to have dinner very closeby is Prism Glass Gallery-cafe.

So, will get my own personal act together and get caught up with the rest of the group and get my stay booked! Now, if new employment gets in the way, I'm gonna be REALLY pissed :angry2: !! Maybe I should just collect unemployment and take the summer off, or at least a few months...... hmm. I'm sure that'd go over real well with the S.O., NOT. <_<

So who else is coming on this God-foresaken ride?!

Thursday Night we may be in Rye, NH. at a friend's house.

All booked for EDIT Brookside Motel for Friday Night and

Bar Harbor Motel for Saturday and Sunday Night.

I can't wait!!! I LOVE seafood!!!!!!!!!!

Cool!! It's starting to sound like a lot of folks will be jumping in and out here and there. That is awesome, IMO.

Here's a question for those that will be staying over in Bah Hahbah Saturday night. Would you like a ride route for exploring Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park, or would you prefer to just wing it? CJ and I are working up the routes and it would be goiod to know what folks want.

If you've never been to MDI before, it is well worth taking the Park Loop road and seeing all the shoreline features. Thunder Hole is a cool sight on an incoming tide, especially if the surf is up. There is also a remote section of Acadia NP on the north side of Frenchman's bay (off the island), which I personally think has even more scenic shoreline beauty than the main part on the island. All of this is easily findable using the Park maps, etc, or we could organize a ride route if that's what folks want to do.

Other alternatives include wandering around Bar Harbor village's quaint shops, including literally a bazillion options for gustatory satiation, many short, relatively easy hiking trails that provide an incredible scenery to effort quotient (I'd personally like to do one of these), rides over to the "quiet" southwest side of the island, visit a cove on the SW side where the seals and Osprey tend hang out, etc.

Seriously, a single day is never going to be enough. But we can do whatever folks have the inclination to do.

UPDATE 3-13-10 This ride will be May 21-23, ride starts at 0900 from the Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, ME. This is a three day event, but will be segmented for those who can only make a single day ride to try to accomodate as many people as possible.
What do you think you'll be doing for daily mileage. I'm assuming your not going straight up I-95.

I'm trying to swing a ride the weekend before, so I might just try to hook up for a few hours on one of the 3 days your in my area.

Did you get a head count?
