I guess if we are doin northen legs we may add Cabbage Island clambakes from Boothbay Harbor. We went there for a pre wedding bash and it's a damn good thing someone came to get us :yahoo: or we would STILL be there :yahoo:
Will add it to the list of considerations for the poll!

Ok, so here's an early preliminary list of places to eat mentioned so far, in no particular order (will add to it and update it as we go):

Mattapoisette Chowder House- Mattapoisette, Ma

Alisson's Restaraunt- Kennebunkport, Me

Billy's Chowder House- Wells, Me

Bob's Clam Hut- Kittery, Me

The Clam Shack- Kennebunkport, Me

Cappy's Chowder House- Camden, Me

Captain Hutch's- Barrington, NH

The Maine Diner- Wells, Me

Island Chowder House- Bar Harbor, Me

Legal Seafood's- Boston, Ma

Brown's Lobster Pound- Seabrook, NH

Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound- Trenton, Me

Chauncy Creek Lobster Pound- Kittery Point, Me

Harraseeket Lobster- Freeport, Me

Cabbage Island Clambakes- Boothbay Harbor, Me

:construction: Still working on the list! Hit up your friends and family network and see if there are any others that stick out.

After re-reading through the posts so far, I'm kinda liking Bluejag's thought of a clambake..... maybe the last day of the little get together?? Would require a gathering place with capacity to do everything involved should we take this on ourselves, or does someone have specific knowledge of one of the aforementioned places ability to provide such a function?

If we were to host our own clambake, I'd volunteer (my wife, Shh!) to run a chase vehicle to haul much of the necessary items required, would still just need a spot to have it.

Any other thoughts? :)

Oh BOY! This is heatin' up nicely :D A clambake !? :yahoo: I've never done a cambake.

I think I've mentioned this ride a half dozen times in the last 2 days. Pick good dates, please!

Y'all are makin me hungry...

Can hillbillys show up uninvited?

I've never ate clam chowder...

I'll try anythin once...

:)

So I was tallying a few of the better Maine chowdahouses I know of... Here's what I got:In alphabharbuetical order (some added by prior consensus, 'cause I din't know any better)

Alisson's in K'bunkport

Billy's C'house in Wells

Bob's clam hut in Kittery

Cappy's C'house on Camden

Captain Hutch's in Barrington (NH)

The Maine Diner in Wells

Island Chowderhouse in BahHaBa

Please add more and we can re-arrange them all into geometricalstaticalorientational sequential order.

The only one I can speak to is the "Lobster Pie" at the Maine Dinner in Wells. It has pie crust on top and is PACKED with lobster and stuff. I ate it every night for a week, when we were up that way.

Can't wait to see how this goes. Hoping to join in. Even the smarter half wants to go. That's pretty cool.

Yup, Maine Diner is one of those places that gets consistently GREAT reviews for their food, but poor reviews for their service, mostly because it is small and if you come at the wrong time you'll have to wait a loooong time to get in. And I can't even imagine being an employee when the people are all cranky from having to wait so long. At that point, nothing is going to be good enough...

Once the full list is compiled you'll have to thin it out a lot. For instance, given the choice between the Island Chowder House in BAh Habah and Trenton Lobster which is about 5 minutes away, I'd go with that latter for the total rustic experience. BTW - these were both my proposals so I'm not dissing anyone else's suggestions. But there are also a lot of places close together in the southern section, so some weeding out will be necessary.

If we happen to be heading north from Boston along the coast, I would highly recommend the bisque at Anthony's Pier 4 in Swampscott.

Then again, this isn't the Brisk Bisque ride, is it!

Looking forward to dates being picked! Hoping they won't cross opening day of my men's baseball season.

I've done plenty 'o clams, but this 'un looks to be one of the best! (Hey, it's Friday!) :blushsmiley:
Not for much longer! oops....at least, here on the right coast
Mary Ellen! Why you gotta go there?!?! I was referring to clam bakes!!

Yes, Fred, we will have to thin things out a bit. I just wanted to be able to get a full listing of everyone's favorite places. We can then evaluate what we have and go from there. Heck, during the height of the tourist season, one could walk to a bunch of places and get totally gorged without ever having to get on the bike! And, after all, this is a ride with a little bit of eating, though I have nothing against alot of eating AND riding! ;)

Fred, is there any place you can think of in the southern Maine area that would be able to serve as a good spot that could host a New England clambake for a realtively small group (<50)? I would enjoy hosting it, but central Mass is a good ways away from the Maine coast..... and, having to haul a ton of stuff plus trying to find a locale to do it seems too cumbersome.

Paging Sullivan, paging Mr. Sullivan...... come in please!

I will have to do some research, but refer to post #32 both Chauncy Creek and Fort Foster are in the same loc.(about 5/10min. apart) I will try to get you some good intel and report

Phixed it.

No oysters on these rides, oysters are best out of breeding season. Oysters are best in months that have an -R- in their name.

Well, that's one of the questions up for grabs......... when ya wanna go? As has been mentioned before, avoiding the tourists would be a wise decision.
