Hi there,

Well as of this past Friday, im the proud owner of a 2005 FJR....Got it for $9000..Clean bike, with just a few marks on the side bags from boots comming over them, oh and it has 2800 miles on it..So far, after some saddle time this weekend, I love this bike. I had traded a 2003 FZ-1 in for the FJR, and granted the FZ-1 was more "tossable" and had that "sportbike" powerband, the FJR fits me, and my ridding style much better, not to mention it feels great 2 up...I do have a couple of questions, that I havent seem to beable to find an answere to with the search button..Is there away to make the throtal "take up" faster..I dont mind the tention, as I used to keep the FZ-1 and all my other bike on the tighter side, but it feels like I have to move the throtal more, to get into the range where the FJR wants to move out better...Second question, the bike has Brigstone BT020s on it, and there in good shape, but, I dont really like the feel that much. Has anyone tried running a more "Sporting Tire" say like the Conti Road Attacks or Sport Attack, or Dunlop Qulifiers or Mich Piolt Powers, and what where your thoughts on these tires on the FJR...And finaly, The bike seems to handle pretty good. I took sometime on Sat. morning and played with the suspenion settings, setting up a decent sag and comp and rebound for the front, and the best I could do with the rear, but Im finding that at slow speeds it seems like I have to steer the bike and not lean the bike, because she wants to drop in to much, only at slow speeds though...Could it be the tires? Is it just the way the BT020s work? I have never run a bike with Bridgestones so there new to me..I have check the air pressure when cold, and its set right on what the bike calls for, so im not sure what else it might be...Thanks for any help

Hi Kawi,

Throttle "take up" as you put it, can be cured with a G2 handle bar sleeve that you can get at sportbike effects, best deal in town and superb service provided by a fellow FJR rider and member of this forum.

As for tires, I recently installed some Michelin Road Pilot II's and so far am very pleased with the ride quality and grip. A high grip race spec tire may prove to be overstressed on the FJR due to the higher weights you are running. Not that you can't run one, i just think it will wear very quickly.

My opinion.

None the less, welcome to the group, I think you will love your choice in bikes!

Throttle take-up may be as simple as adjusting your cables to remove any slack.

The G2 throttle wasn't used until the 06/07 models when it changed to a fast action throttle.

Hey Kawwi., no doubt Ignacio will chime in soon telling u how great the search function really works ( I`m sure u know from yer own experience...it don`t!). In any event, congrats on the purchase....it`s an awesome machine. The throttle tension/action on the 1st generation FJR is actually pretty good compared to the `06-07s. Over time you will get used to it. Pump up yer front tire to at least 39lbs, maybe 40-42....see how it feels. Don`t forget: your FZ1 experience has coloured your perception. Again, give it time ...every bike has traits.

Thanks for the info so far guys. Im going to try to play with the front aire pressure today and see how it feels. As for the throtal cable adjustment, where would one find the screws for that? Im used to having an adjuster at the grip that you can turn to give or take slack from teh cable, and from what I can see, there isnt one by the grip on the FJR, even under the rubber booty...Any help would be appresiated..Thank you...

Kawwi., there are 2 throttle cable adjustment locations on the fjr. One is at the bottom of the cable at the throttle bodies: u probobly shouldn`t attempt this as a first time fjr owner (unless ofcourse, u are a well seasoned wrench). The other is on the cable itself, about 4 inches below the grip, under a 2-3" long black rubber sleeve...sort of blends in with the other cables, easy to miss. I am assuming yer cable is OEM.
