Since I bought (and received, thanks to 3dogs and SPU :clapping: ) a book and am too lazy to read and comprehend it before knowing I can't find the quick answer that way, I'll ask here:
Tracy, (how) can the FJR be wired so the headlights go out when one lights up his aux. lights? It's about power conservation.
Wow. And I thought I had big balls. :p
Many men have said you do Tim.

I'll think of your question as I read the book. Just finished chapter two for the second time. On schedule, so I should have an answer to you by next Spring. :yahoo:

On the FJR (2005 anyway) the headlights are controlled by a relay that is triggered by the computer when the engine starts and runs. You could use another Bosch 5 terminal relay (will call it relay #1) that will turn off the headlight when the aux lights are powered up.

Headlight power would be through relay #1 on terminal 87a (to headlights) that is normally closed. Terminal 30 would be the wire that now goes to the headlights from the original Yamaha relay.

Terminal 86 (relay #1) would be a constant ground.

Terminal 85 (relay #1) would go the the aux light power.

When the aux lights are switfhed on, 12 volts will go to terminal 85 on relay #1. This will open the contacts (relay #1) between terminals 30 and 87a, shutting off the headlights.

Anyway, that's how I would do it. Tracy...

I got my book and wonder of wonders...it even makes sense to electrically challenged me! Thanks.

Is it too late to get on board with this GB? I was asleep at the switch... My bike ran great before I spent $15,000 on farkles, but now it goes backward when I put it in first gear.

I'd love a copy!

Sorry, but I'm done. But if you can get 5 other guys together I'm sure Terri would do another batch.

After Tracy's help with my TBS. I felt compelled to get his book. I've been working avionics for an airline for almost twenty years and I found this book very useful. Everyone that works on his own bike should have a copy. It makes a great reference tool. Thanks Tracy for your help and thanks for putting all this useful information in one place that we can use. Ever think about writing one for airplanes?

After reading Tracy's book, the basic concepts helped me figure out where in the electrical system (ignition switch and not fuses or broken wire) my bike had failed. And I am an acknowleged idiot when it comes to tech. stuff. Book recommended. As for a group buy I ran the last one. If there is mucho interest I will contact Tracy and do another for folks as a way to pay back to the forum some of what I have received.

If I get PM's from 10 people in the next week with REAL interest I will email Tracy and see if we can get something done again this year.
