I recently installed the Audiovox CC on my '05 ABS. I spent a lot of time searching and reading everything I could find on the subject. If I had non ABS I would have mounted the module under the right sidecover. Alas, that space is fully occupied by the ABS module. Tool tray is where it went. Some mods to the tool tray were needed, easy to do with a utility knife blade heated with a torch. Installation is neat and clean.

I found room under the seat for: CC, Fuzeblock, brakelight isolation relay, Skene lighting controller, Power Commander and a couple terminal strips. Under the passenger seat I found room for a pretty comprehensive Cruz Tools Roadtech tool kit and the Yamaha toolkit. I probably have some duplication between the kits. There still may be room for a small air compressor under there, could be wishful thinking on my part though.

I'm quite happy with the cruise unit. I opted to discard the switch pad that came with it and used a spdt momentary switch in the switch housing above the w/s switch. PM me with your email addy and I'll send you a photo or two.

I think for what you are trying to do you are on the right path. I do something similar for rally purposes, wanted to keep things powered for brief stops. I use FZ-1 for all constant on devices.

I also have a PDM-60 mounted underneath dash shelf up front. The problem with it (in addition to cost you mention) is that with delay offsetting of say ten minutes, the circuits reset themselves on subsequent startup. Not a problem fir a Zumo 665/660/590 with an internal battery but with a Streetpilot the thing restarts which is what you are trying to avoid. There us the constant on option in programming but Rowe points out the significant (over a few days) draw of the PDM-60 itself (as was mentioned).

OK, I see what you are trying to accomplish with the handlebar switch now. I achieved a similar thing a slightly different way, but my way may not be what you want either. In addition to the two power distribution panels on the bike, I also have a (fairly standard) powerlet outlet in the black "D" panel of the dash area that is fused/wired directly from the battery. That always hot outlet is useful for battery maintenance and plugging a 12V compressor into in the event I need to inflate a tire, but is also where I regularly plug my tank bag electrics into. The tank bag subsequently powers my GPS and contains my intercom/communication systems, so that stuff stays all stays powered up for brief stops. At the end of the day just I unplug the tank bag, pull the GPS out of its mount and toss it into the bag, and carry it all off into the hotel for safe keeping.

The other reason I went this route is that I have multiple bikes and have Bags Connection tank rings on both bikes for the tang bag, and just bought a second GPS cradlle for the 2nd one. This allows me to share all of the electronics between the two bikes very easily. Probably not so important on your Rally bike.

It too could be switched from bike to bike in a few seconds, or removed to take into hotel rooms. On the FJR I wanted something a little neater, but that arrangement worked very well.

 
I think I have seen something similar to your farkle bar, suspended between the two handle bars on small Ram ball mounts. That does seem like a better solution for the gadget intense LD crowd than the dash shelves that cannot easily be removed.

Anyway, I think you already have your plan worked out, so good luck with the execution.

Okay, I'll update the thread. New Motobatt and Fuzeblock should arrive this week. I can pick up a relay, socket and wire locally. Might need to order a selection of Pozi-Lock and Pozi-Tap connectors.

Justin will supply the lights in a few weeks, and hopefully he will have a set of brackets for me too.

I already have a Russell seat and Aux. gas courtesy of the PO. Bar risers came fitted (helibar), as did a ThrottleMeister.

Should be good to go.

Oh yes, I also have an MRA X-Creen (aerofoil wing) that I had on the Venture. I am thinking that would help on this bike too, and it certainly won't hurt :D
