Chevy guy here... previously a K1500 stepside (91). Tranny went out, but that's what happens when you throw a supercharger and locking differential in it... well, that's what happens when you USE a supercharger and locking differential anyway.
I'm still in the Chevy family, but needed to change to something a little less "functional" and a little more civilized than yer basic truck. I'm now saddled with a 2004 Chevy Avalanche - 1500 Z71 package, loaded with everything except nav system and/or DVD (no roof rack either - it's fugly!). BTW... you can get an FJR in the back.
I've had zero mechanical problems with it since day one and expect it to stay that way for at least another two years. I've had a few minor electrical issues, like my mirrors forgetting the difference between my settings and my wife's (she's 5'2" on a good day). No leaks from the rear panels, sunroof or removable window (which was my main concern when I got it).
My step-father has the 2500 Avalanche and reports about the same results, other than having to redo his brake rotors (which is probably because he uses the thing to tow a 36 foot boat).
In my opinion, ALL of the import brand trucks feel "cheesy" to me. Too spartan. Kind of like the manufacturers built all the guts first, then realized two weeks before it was supposed to go on the market that seats and dash board would be a good thing to have.
Just my two cents... another happy redneck Chevy whore.
