Seizing cars and property based on planted drug evidence, but they got away with it for a long time and lots of innocent folks lost because of it.

Now, the government can "seize" someone's car, but it's not a crime? How is that different from stealing... except that it is sanctioned by a much stronger force, i.e. armed agents of the government?
Virginia's excessive fines seem equally punitive, but without threatening livelihood. There are better ways to address speeding.
But, we won't talk about that because this is an FJR forum and somebody might confuse your conversation with politics that aren't even motorcycle related and against the forum guidelines.

As it gets cooler some folks might be tempted to start taking up the sport of political ranting and we're not going to have that. Keep it on subject folks.....how does this Ontario thing specifically deal with FJRs...or at least motorcycles?

Sincerely,

The Management

Check out this proposed law in FL.

Florida Proposal

Note that if this law goes through you would be in a world of hurt if you are clocked at 30mph over the posted limit. So say 85mph in a 55 zone. Wouldn't be that hard, without even intentionally doing it.

Oh, and I love how this only applies to MOTORCYCLES. What?

I wonder what this phrase means:

"...while operating or in actual physical control of a motorcycle..." Has someone been speeding with a remote control bike?

That's a good question.

Do you know the difference between a good question and a great question?

A great question is one that I know the answer to.

To recap, vehicles can be seized and fines handed out when drivers:

. Drive 50 km/h or more over the speed limit;

. Race and/or stunt drive; and

. Drive with someone in the trunk.

Seriously, is this a big problem in Canada????

This whole thing's gotta be a scam anyway. The first link says a Hyundai was going 160. Mine wouldn't go that fast if it fell off a cliff... mph or kmh

How the hell do you get to the drive-in movie?!?

Not at this years velocities anyway.

<hijack warning>So does NS have the roads to play on at FJR speeds? Or is it just one big circle around the island?<hijack off>
There are some very fine roads out in NS, Mixing a CFR with the Alders has been thrown around a bit.

Note Nova Scotia isn't an island, Cape Breaton is (Attached to Nova Scotia), Newfoundland is but quite a bit further North East up the Labrador coast.

Someone will challenge the law and win - but to do that he has to race or stunt drive with someone in the trunk.

[snip]...how does this Ontario thing specifically deal with FJRs...or at least motorcycles?
Too easy, Iggy. Not to FJRs specifically, but definitely to motorcycles in general...at least motorcyclists.Too many guys here (and in ANY bike forum you care to visit) think it's some kind of right to go as fast as they ******* want to without regard to the consequences. How many "how fast will a Feejer go" replies can you count?Any time an article gets posted about bikers, of ALL persuasions, coming under more frequent than normal scrutiny, a bunch of guys start crying "foul". Post an article about "heavyhanded" treatment of squidly behavior and the same bunch starts bitching about "******** laws." Unfortunately, it just seems that too many guys with fast vehicles feel singled-out when they break the law. Like driving 30-40-50 over is their "right" just 'cause they have the vehicle to get them there in a hurry. The solution to NOT having your car/bike/snowmobile/rocket sled "acquired" by the state is simple -- don't **** up in front of a LEO. How difficult is that? And if you DO get popped for 50 over, tough ****. Ignorance of the law...and all that, y'know? Now before someone flames back about what a self-righteous prick I am, my last Performance Award was for 85 in a 45. Did I ***** about it? No. I paid the $625 and slowed my happy *** down.
