Hey, maybe we can get Randy to make them for all of us! :D

Nice work there!
Thank you.

But as far as making more? No way. It took me over 2 months of being out there every night......sanding, grinding, bondo, etc etc.

Now the yellow one in the background was fairly easy because the base I started with was the seat cowl on the SV. I had to fab the base of the FJR smuggler from scratch, and there was no way to make a form to duplicate it. I also told Jim Shook (owner of Speedpac) that I wouldn't mass produce it. Patent infringement and all that since I'm using his product for the top section.

I'm still considering, however, to make JUST a seat cowl for the FJR. Duplication on that would be fairly easy, and it would merely slip over the factory rear seat. Just not enough time, you know how that goes.

I only made the one for the SV after my friend/riding buddy hounded the HELL out of me until I gave in. He also got HIS hands dirty too. I was only going to do it if he sanded most of it. Now he too knows why I don't make more!

Did you take pictures as you were working?? Is it a DIY-winter is coming. Very nice job

Having also the people on FJR Owner forum interested, they suggest to combine orders from both sites to have a better price.
FSD should give us an idea of the price next week, could you please reply to this post for me to have an idea of how many people is actually interested here:

I will also work with FSD for a backrest that could fit on the actual rack, but that 's another story, let see first if it is working with the smuggler.

1- Me

I was an "early adopter" of the Corbin Smuggler, and have had mine in place for the last 6,500 miles with no issues. Yes, I believe the price was higher than most would want to pay, but after a year of riding with one in place I still think it was the answer for ME for solo riding. It holds enough of the stuff I would normally carry in a tank bag to be used every time I stop for fuel (sunglasses, gloves, ear plugs, face shield cleaner, water bottle) and for some things that I only occasionally need (extra face shield, ibuprophen, disk lock, cash, multitool, small digital camera), is lockable, and secure. I like the looks, and after a year of use, the initial concern of price versus utility has faded into oblivion. If someone else comes up with a similar or even more useful version of this concept at a lower price, solo riders will probably be pleased.

In summary, it's NOT one of those kinds of purchases that I THOUGHT would be useful that didn't pan out, leaving the farkle unused in the garage on a shelf.

I have had my Corbin Smuggler for 6 months now and I use it every time I go out for a ride. Of course, I also use my topcase + tankbag. The only time I use the side bags is when I actually travel over night.

The Smuggler is like every other purchase in life - some want it, some don't. I just wish those who don't wouldn't rain on the parade of those who do  !

Happy New Year!
