Taking my 2006 in for 600 mile service tomorrow to a trustworthy dealer.

I want to take care of as much of the jumpy throttle as I can before I take it on a trip to Deals Gap next weekend. I don't have the time or tools to do the TBS myself, so I'm considering letting the dealer do it tomorrow.

From what I've read on here about this, is this about all that can be done to help?

Throttle bodies synced

Slack out of throttle cable

Barbarian jumper

Take out one Throttle Return Spring

I can get the slack out of the cable and do the barbarian jumper later next week, not sure about taking out a throttle return spring, do you think a dealer would do this, or give me some liability bs answer about it?

thanks for the replies

Let the dealer do the TBS and take the slack out of the throttle cable. Go to Deal's and try to be smooth w/ your roll on. 600 miles? You're still getting used to it. Be careful at Deal's this weekend; it's gonna be busy. Have fun.

While your at the dealer, pester him about the jerkiness at low throttle. Mamayama needs to come out with a fix for this.

Please let us know how you did on the Dragon. I posted my "disappointment on the Dragon" on the FJR discussion page. I could not go as quick as I thought I should be able to due to the drive train slop and the difficulty of getting smooth throttle response especially in first and second gears. I would strongly suggest dropping the bags and other luggage as the Feejer shows its weight when it comes time to flick it around. Although you apparently dont have far to get there since you're already in Kentucky, I am sure you will find the Feejer a great, long legged, superhighway mount, with a very user friendly side bag setup. Oh, one more thing: that stippled sticky seat does not help much when you want to shift your body in the twisties. So treasure the torque and have a fun time.

I would do a couple of things.

1. I would ask if I couldn't watch the TBS - because I'm willing to bet that they will look at your settings and pronounce them "within spec" - which they will be. But, "within spec" isn't good enough. You would do a better job. - OR ask the tech if you can slip him a 20 or something so that he will take the extra time to do it like it was HIS bike. You might bribe him with Pizza or a sub for lunch or something.

2. I'm doubtful they will pull the spring - but let me know if they will. Whether there is a liability issue or not; they will probably claim there is one.

getting the slack out of the cable and out of the throttle along with a good tbs will help. Not really sure how much the barbarian helps. Maybe it helped mine a tad, but that could have been wishful thinking, too.

Well,

Got the 600 mile service done Saturday.

I told them to do the TBS and adjust the slack in the throttle cable. I didn't even try the spring with them because they were pushed for time like it was, and i sprung the TBS and cable slack on them during this appointment. They are usually swamped on Saturdays.

I talked to the mechanic that did it afterwards, this is a huge dealer that has sold like 27 FJRs to date and only have a couple of the AE's left. He said he has not seen many FJRs come back in for service , and this was the first time that anyone specifically asked for the TBS to be done. He did do it because he stated he didn't understand why the manual called for the gas tank to be put back on before he did the service, then when it wouldn't start he knew it was b/c the tank wasn't hooked up and unplugged.

He said it was a bit out but not alot, although he thought it would help smooth it out.

The cable was nearly 10mm of slack and it calls for 2-3 or something, so he adjusted that better.

He said he could tell before the TBS in the parking lot that it was a little jerkey before the service, although like he said , he hasn't spent much time on the 2006's, and afterward I would say it helped some, but definately didn't make a dramatic improvement.

I guess I will try the Barbarian jumper mod this week if I have time. Also, I believe I read a post that someone said a Power Commander smoothed this issue out?

I let him know of the fixes that everyone is talking about on this site, and he is going to be keeping an eye out for any other 2006's that come in there. These guys are up to date on all there training and YAMA has not let them know anything about this issue yet.

I won't be pushing it hard this weekend at the Dragon anyway, will have the wife with me and full of luggage.

thanks for the replies.

well - THERE is your problem. Have the wife spit out all the luggage and put it in the saddlebags where it belongs.

Better for her and the bike will handle better too.
