Whoa, this is bad kharma! Too many guys from the ole' Arkansas group going down lately.
Glad you're OK Adam.
Can you explain this statement??

Adam:

Glad your OK. Take it easy on the Scotch....that will hurt you more than the crash at this point.
I can explain it...

He is making reference to the Hooterville gang, And the fact that Chester also crashed this year. Only his way REALLY bad. Mine was more of a tip over due to the soft landing i had

I will not drink like that again for a Looooong time.

Adam:

Thanks for the clarification.

I'm VERY, VERY surprised you are up this early. Need a few aspirins????

Alright...

Here is the breakdown.

Yesterday, Fencer, TooPhast, MBottoms and one other were getting our GPS routes loaded, But the firmware needed updating to them to calculate. So, We were essentially taking any road that looked interesting. The route that we were attempting to ride was Jeff's #8.

We ended up on a super narrow road that was maybe 11/2 lanes wide, And i was in the #2 position behind Fencer. We were not riding fast at all, And just really trying to find some good roads!

Anyway, We made it around a blind left hander and started down a 12% or steeper grade that was way off camber, And the truck just entered the next corner and blocked the whole road. Keep in mind, This is a very short section. Fencer got on the brakes hard, And i had plenty of distance from him had i not skidded.

The road surface was so slick due to the shade, That the back brake locked while i was hitting the front. The back of the bike started swinging out due to the severe off camber lean, And i was counter steering to try and correct it but i caught the edge of the grass and that was all folks.

I technically highsided, But not really... I was going about 5mph when i went down, And fell in the ditch 20 feet down. I was so lucky, The ditch was stuffed with dead tree leaves and high weeds. I had a very soft tumble down the hill. The bike stayed on top, Thank God!

End result, ABS would have saved my ***... This is the only time that i have been in a situation where i lost all control of my braking.

The Sheriff pretty much said it was a no fault accident, So i think the damage i have will just have to come from my pocket.

In all honesty, THe only damage was my right PHID, And a few sctatches... Thats it. I have 3 bruises on my leg, But not so much as a cut anywhere.

I am glad to have went down this way for my first, And it will make me think more when i ride.

I thought I told you guys not to do that! Crash, I mean.

Glad you are OK Adam. I assume the young lady in your avatar was not on the bike with you at the time.

Glad it was just a tumble. Sounds like the road was a bit of a technical nightmare. Thanks for confirming the reason I bought the 2008. ABS isn't perfect but neither am I. Ride safe.

Glad to hear that your alright. At least it was a soft landing and you were able to walk away, thats the main thing that counts. Be carefull up there guys, hope not to see any more of these posts.

Glad to hear you're okay. Nothing like a soft landing for your first. I went down on a cruiser once in super soft dirt, just kind of buried me under the bike. Learned the cruiser didn't do to well off road. Sober up and ride some more. B)

Good to hear your okay big guy... I would throw the blue beast in the **** box and get something NEW.. I have a cold glass of Kool-aid over here in Hooterville.... Would you take a drink??? Come on over, the water is fine... :dribble:

If I can help with your bike let me know.... Smitty

Thanks guys,

The bike is surprisingly good shape! So, I may have a sip of the Kool-Aid, but the Blue Beast is still operational...hehe

Maybe if i get rich, Then the Blue and white Roundell will call to me...

Hey Adam, sorry about your getoff. I sure am glad you're fine and your ride's not too badly banged up. :)

Stef

PS: I've just returned from an aborted bike tour. My riding buddy has T-boned a concrete wall with his 2007 FJR. He hasn't broken any bones, but his bike now has the wheelbase of a Buell

Now THAT'S a story you need to post in its own thread......we need details on his "technique". :dribble:

P.S. Stef, the good news is that he isn't seriously injured! Bruised egos heal quicker than torn muscles, ruptured internal organs and broken bones.

I hate aborted bike tours...I'm glad your friend is going to recover... :clapping:

That picture of the hay truck looks like the ones that make you cringe from the Dragon when the truck takes up both sides and the middle of a tight turn. Any signs restricting vehicular traffic on that stretch of road to 2 or less axles? Probably should be.

Glad you came through it in decent shape Adam.

Groo...haybales probably means local delivery from farmer...and most of WV roads wind around like that. That's why ya just gotta have yer radar on for that stuff if you can.
