I got pulled over by one of those Dodge Hemi trucks on Day 6 of BBG Hell Week last July.

Fortunately, we knew each other. We chatted briefly, then I told him to give me a few minutes head start, and he wouldn't be able to catch me. He said: "OK, I'll give you 5 minutes, but just so you know, this thing has a Hemi!"

I just smiled. He never had a chance..... I never saw him again....

Makes me wonder if Beerme is going to be in the big rig. Should I look out for signs on clipboards from big rigs instead of patrol cars?!?

Its kind of interesting that they would use a couple hundred dollars worth of diesel to write a $75.00 speeding ticket. Doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to me.

Yo, RenoJohn... Slow down!
Reporters did a "ride-along" and it was on the local news last night with video coverage. They are targeting the folks that phuck with big-rig's ...cut them off, tailgate, pass them then slam on the brakes ....etc etc etc.

they claim 80percent of big-rig incidents are the result of an ****** in an automobile ..only 20% of the time is the big-rig the cause.

North of Pioche in eastern Nevada ....got off with a "rural". A Dodge, but I don't believe it's a hemi :)

The Dodge Ram that I encountered couldn't help but announce that it had a Hemi engine..... in addition to the normal tart-like Hemi placards installed during assembly, mine also had about a half-dozon decals/bumper-stickers proclaiming it was a "Hemi"...

And yeah, you gotta love the Nevada "rural" citations.... I got one of those on Day 5 during that little run last summer... B)

Old friend visited me last Tuesday. When I pulled in my driveway I saw his new toy Dodge R/T hemi.

He had it rechipped, changed the exhaust and made a few other mods then claimed he dyno'd it at a performance shop across the street from his business location in downtown B'ham.

He claimed it dyno'd at 420 hp

I drove it............I have no reason now to doubt it :dribble:

Glad it's his.......told him that thing is more dangerous than my FJR

True , cars don't think about the braking power and manuverability issues when driving around semi's. The po-po will have one hell of a fuel bill though!!!

<sarcasm>

Boy, have they got that right! What right does some ***** in a mere passenger vehicle or on a motorcycle have to occupy space that a truck wants? If they'd just get out of the way, the trucks wouldn't run over them. They've got a real nerve! On top of that, they want to hold a steady speed, not do 40 uphill and 80 downhill... What's up with that???

What's a "rural"? Obviously, cheaper than a "non-rural"... :)

Man, I have to call ******** on that. Here in Vancouver we repeatedly see newspaper stories of drivers arrested at the port-of-entry scale on I-5 that are either drunk, high on meth or something else, or have outstanding warrants. And they tried the same thing here with a big PR and sign campaign to "teach" us car drivers how to drive around the big trucks, all because the poor crybaby big rig drivers claim it's always the cars fault (I guess we need to form our own lobby). Is it any wonder people whip around them then move into their lane when they're parked out in the two left lanes of a 3-lane highway? Back when I drove long-haul we wouldn't think of using those lanes unless we were really passing somebody, lest a CHP would come out of nowhere and write us the dreaded $27.50 violation.

I actually like this idea!

This give ammo to the truckers who do it right! :clapping:

Now, If they would go into all the truck stops and remove all those lot lizards! :glare:

It may not have anything to do with the lanes, but more to do with violating someone's "safety zone". I agree that they should arrest and prosecute drivers you mentioned in your statement about the Port-of-Entry. But there are plenty of us who drive daily, do not use drugs or drink alcohol and try to drive safely, carefully and politely. Here in CA, the lane violation is more like 10X what you posted and in my area, they enforce it. And yes, it makes me PO'd when it happens to me.

The fact is that many cars do pull in front of me, slam on their brakes and "suddenly" turn into a driveway....with no signal. They do speed to pass me and "cut in" at a signal because I might cost them a few minutes. They do pass me on the right, in a right-turn-only lane so they can beat me across an intersection. They do, while talking on their cell phone, suddenly realize they are passing their off-ramp, slam on their brakes and cross 3 lanes of traffic (rather than going to the next ramp and coming back). The stories and issues could be argued ad nauseum, ad infinitum.

The same "sixth sense" I use to protect myself on my motorcycles has saved many cage drivers an accident or injury, because they simply do not THINK.

I'm not saying the truck drivers are always right, but they aren't always wrong, either (though some are extremely narrow minded and stupid---like every other human sub-group). If you want the trucks off the road, quit buying things. Until then, goods must be transported and delivered so that the end user can purchase them.

It should be about "sharing" the road, and that requires each of us to "give" some space, even when riding our motorcycles. That's probably an unrealistic hope or goal.

I'm grateful for the 5+ years I spent driving the big rigs, I know it taught me a lot about what to watch for among traffic (and guess I really dated myself when I said what the fine was when I was a driver). And MM, you're right, it's really just an issue about sharing the road. I certainly didn't mean to dis the good drivers that I know are also out there, racking up years and miles with little fanfare.

It's too bad everybody couldn't just be more considerate of each other. Road rage and single-finger salutes would stop, and we'd probably all get to our respective destinations in much less time. Is it any wonder we yearn to be somewhere like NV Hwy 50 on our bikes?

That little maneuver is probably the biggest cause of accidents for sober drivers. I call it "me first" driving.

I like the truck idea to monitor traffic, but can't they get some other color besides white?

Ya, I've seen one of those hemi'd patrol rigs. Pretty cool to see, but not when they're in your rearview mirror :)
YEP, make no mistake, if it wasn't for rurals, no doubt I'd be in the pokey, getting lovin' from bubba. My license would be gone and my insurance Co would have abandoned me.

Clean record, polite and professional will help the officer to choose a rural in many instances here in NV

....hmm, must vary by area as i see cars constantly screwing with trucks here .......I think the truckers in NV are less agrressive, perhaps because it is truckers that you usually see in mass at the rural brothels -maybe they take out their pent-up aggressions here. Maybe something your area should think about.

The fact is that many cars do pull in front of me, slam on their brakes and "suddenly" turn in
Yes, this is what I see, I see truck violations, but I see many more cars screw with the truckers, especially violating safety zones. It's tempting, I try not to ......but always a big enough gap in front of a truck to squeeze in.This "squeezing in" is what they're hoping to catch people doing here (among other safety zone violations.

What is a "rural"?

This is the first I've heard of it. Nobody tells us diddly out here in Podunk, USA. FWIW, seems like a well-intentioned effort, but wasteful at the same time. A little ambivalence never hurt nobody. Well, maybe a little. Hell, i dunno.
