Looks like Yamaha dropped the Super Tenere for 2014. WTF? I'm glad I got mine. As much as I love the FJR I have put twice the miles on the Tenere this summer. But the main reason was to save enough FJR tire for CFO / EOM this month.

That is a big unknown right now. Possibly a late introduction of a special model? They don't have a huge abundance of excess inventory they need to get rid of that would warrant skipping s year, so nobody really knows right now.

No '14?....but maybe a early '15 with a different (triple) power plant?

As good as the Super Tenere is, the competition stepped up big time in that category recently. Triumph, KTM, and BMW all have upped the ante in the Adventure Bike category. To read the magazines you would think the new BMW R1200GS was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

My problem with the S-10 is the amount of overlap with the Sport Touring category. I don't ride enough to be able to justify two bikes that do most of the same things. Which is of course, my fault. Not the bike's fault and I would love to own a Tenere.

https://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=9327.0 Herr Petey und der SkooterG may be on the right track, lots of buzz over on the Yamaha Super Tenere Forum that there will be a 2015 model with a triple power plant and with a much lighter weight to go up against the Triumph Adventure and KTM's!

Yamaha is coming out with Super-Super Tenere.. there just holding the curtain to build suspense...
+1, Gunny! A triple power plant Super Tenere with a weight lighter than the Triumph Adventure would be the ticket to the off road trek ballgame!

Hang on to your wallet. Maybe the 2014 Tenere will be red. That will create a dilemma for me.

That bike is a brand new model, don't see why they would drop it that quick?
It wouldn't be the first time...best guess is that the buyers in the US who most wanted this bike bought it as part of the PDP program (like myself), or if they missed that, either picked up a used 2012 or a new 2013...and new buyers aren't coming into dealerships. This could be another great bike that is a victim of the "American Iron" mindset...

Yup, looks the we are getting dropped, for any of the speculative reasons that folks are talking about. I expect MamaYama will come out with a double or trip adventure bike in a year, but it will almost surely be a chain.

The bottom line is that there will only be two shaft driven adventure bikes remaining, the Trumpet Explorer and the GS. The Explorer is less off-road capable and I know too many people who have sworn off the over-priced BMWs, with their issues.

Fortunately, my 2012 Super Tenere is as reliable a rock as the FJR series so it ought to last a long long time. Maybe with that 2014 FJR red when I scratch up the black enough?

They are just holding out for the big showcase of the Super Tenere next to the new to US smaller Tenere.

Maybe...

Please?

:D

Firefighters say everything is better in red! Lots of speculation going on but the bottom line as good as the Tenere is the others have it beaten in power and weight.

I can't imagine it needing any more power.
We could all stand to lose a little weight, huh?
Interesting comment from TABASCO at the Super Tenere Forum: "2014 rally: Sure... That's the plan... I touched base with a Yamaha friend today. He pulled up there 2014 order form on the computer that he orders bikes over the next six month... It does show the "2013" Super Tenere available for order in the fiscal 2014... He will be placing a few phone calls to Cyprus to confirm what the official 2014 order sheet on the computer says.

I'm wondering or guessing, that Yamaha can now see how many they have sold, when, where, what month, Etc... They might have enough 2013's in the warehouse to cover much of 2014 ? Until they pull an early 2015 model... Just guessing.... I was also told there is "another Tenere on the way".... I asked if it was the 660, they didn't say, or know…….."

Nice looking dark red ^^^^... Looked over the Triumph today while checking out panniers for my STen. The Triumph is freakin huge...might be a competitor to the BMW, but a wanna-be at best.
