I know that comfort is subjective and I see alot of riser info, but am I the only one that finds the stock set up ( 05, Gen I, no riser's) better than with riser's (Heli offset). I'm just your average 6'1", 190lb rider, I've tried it several times and end up back stock. With the riser's my seat starts hurting alot faster and I also feel like it does't handle quiet as good. Surely someone else likes the FJR1300 stock?

I don't know, I'm new to the FJR (two weeks). I'm learning to change my posture. At first my arms and wrists hurt a lot. I'm doing much better now but I'm not sure if it's ideal or if I would better enjoy the bike with risers.

I have a long way to go before I can do as some do and ride a 500 mile day and feel the bike is perfectly comfortable.

Sometimes I wonder if I should have stuck with my Goldwing but then I remind myself how heavy it was sometimes. The GW was definitely more comfortable for me...except at slow speeds and stops.

I put risers (with 1" setback) on initially when I got my '05 because it was another farkle that I thought I needed. I removed them for a track day and never bothered to put them back on. 40k later and I've still got them sitting in my garage somewhere. I'm with you Coastal... the stock setup is fine, for me.

...another one of those little life lessons I learned the $$ way.

Coastal,

I ride my with stock bars and seat in high position. I came from sport bikes so to me I am pretty straight up. I think a lot of it is tansitioning to the new bike. I don't feel any weight on my hands at all. I am 6' tall. The seat starts to develop a pressure point after a few hours but standing a little helps on that point.

I'm another who doesn't use risers on an '05 Gen I that I've owned since I picked it up new on 4-15-05. I'm probably about the size they build most bikes around, though -- 5'10", 195 (working on getting back to 175 again), 34" sleeve. Never put risers on it because it seems to be a perfect compromise between allowing long distance comfort and giving me a useful posture for pushing it in the twisties.

No risers on my '05. I never tried them and never thought I needed 'em. I have to say that I was happy with the stock seat as well until I tried a Russell. So, maybe risers would be good, :dntknw: .

I am perfectly content with stock handlebar set-up. If I were to sit in a more upright position my lower back would begin to ache, like it does on my wife's cruiser. Can't stand that that bike after a hundred miles. For me I need more weight on the arms. I think it also offers better control of the bike IMO.

My bars are stock except for just having moved them from the most rearward to the most forward position.

Last month at Taos, there was a both a Triumph gathering and the SW-FOG going on at the same time. Because I attended both last year with my FJR, this year I rode to Taos on a most unlikely bike for touring, my 08 Triumph Speed Triple.

It turns out that while the ergos on the FJR are excellant, surprisingly the Triple fit me better for long days on the road. No need for a back rest, highway pegs, etc. So I'm doing what I can to make some subtle changes to dial in the fit of the FJR to my bod as it is my first choice for touring. Besides, farkling a naked bike kinda goes against the spirit of the bike! ;)

Add another one for the stock setup. I feel like if I can't ride the bike stock, then most likely I should be looking at a different bike.

Stock Set-Up for me too. Although, I did put them in the Aft Most Position. It works Very well for me.

I can sit completely Upright or Skuch back in the seat a bit and lean forward when I want to. Perfectly Comfortable either Way.

2006 FJR with stock bars, and I have never felt the need for risers. The FJR has always fit me like a glove since the day I

bought her. 5 foot 11 inches, 200 pounds, and 35 inch sleeve length.

Just purchased an 05 a little over a month ago. Rode bike approx. 100 miles from point of purchase and couldn't remove them fast enough. I'm coming off of a gixer 1000 with heli bars though. In fact I still feel a little weird with stock setup, although I'm getting use to it. With risers I felt as though I was laying back. All perspective I guess.

I have an '07 and use the stock handlebars and seat. I have done lots of 7-9 hundred mile days, and rode straight home from Tennessee a couple years ago. 1410 miles in one shot.

When I transitioned from my VTX to my FJR, I was a little sore the first few times, but like most things, I adjusted quickly and gained new muscle memory.

LOTS of people on this board are way too sensitive to let their body adjust to anything, so they freak out when their first ride feels even slightly different from what they rode before...If they even rode.

Then we have the group that will find anything there is to complain about and complain. If I had never come to this site, I would think I have the perfect bike; however, after hanging out a few years, I have realized the problems lurking.

Let's see: The seat sucks, the windshield sucks, the bars suck, the kickstand sucks, the headlights suck, the shocks suck, the vibes suck, the alternator sucks, the battery placement sucks, the clutch sucks, the 5 speed transmission sucks, the low power output sucks, the mirrors suck, the brakes suck, the heat sucks, the weight sucks, the horns suck, the blinkers suck, the ignition switch sucks, the electrical system sucks, the cam chain tensioner sucks, and if you listen to a rogue contingency that plagues this board, the motorcycle tire on the rear sucks.

Did I forget anything? Ride your bike the way you want it, and don't fall for the "Oh, now I need one of these" crowd.

I lowered the seat as low as it will, taking out the rubber bumpers and that other black thing. Also had spencer's rebuild with a specific request to lower a little (about 1/2 inch) according to my calculation. This accomplished the same as raising the handlebars. works fine for me. also lowered with kouba links and dropped the front end 1/2 inch for my stubby legs.
