Re: Stock Riser

I have wondered the same thing. I recently bought my 2006 AE, and it included an MCL billet triple clamp/setback/riser. It is nice & rigid, but this is the only FJR I have ridden. I can go MANY more miles comfortably than I could with my last bike; a 1996 Yamaha Virago 1100 < pretty good bike, but I have had to learn to adjust my posture to preserve my back, and to un-weight my hands & arms while cruising (I am 6', 230 lbs, 64 years). It SEEMS to me that if I had no riser/setback, I would have a harder time un-weighting my hands/arms. This would be a bad thing. What about you, do you carry weight on your arms with the standard triple clamp?

I Have a Kawasaki Nomad and C14 in addition to my recently purchased 06 FJR. Coming from a cruiser to the C14 I most certainly had to buy risers for that bike. I bought the helibar horizons which sit me straight up. However, I was really pleased with the stock seating position of the FJR, I sit almost straight up adn feel very comfortable, I think I'll try a set of risers but I have a feeling they won't last long. I'm 6' and 225lbs, I have a back problem that won't let me sit leaned over very much.

But like seats, riding positions are personal preference and what fits for one person may not fit for the next even if they have the same build.

Corbin in Daytona lets you try their seats before you buy, I wish someone had a business for other things like risers, windshields, etc.. that let you put them on and try them for a few hours before you bought the product.

Because of this thread I decided to remove the risers from my 04 & I like it much better without them. Seems to handle better. At 5'9" with a Russell seat I thought I needed them. Sold them on the forum in 15 minutes!

For me the Gen II riding position is really good w/o risers, and especially w/o any pullback. Long arm reach at 6'3" may have a lot to do with it. As many have stated, everyone is different both in physique and tastes. Glad there are a lot of farkles out there to modify the bike in so many ways.

5'9 here. still even on the stock settings since 07. But I do believe before my next interstate excursion I'll move them to the furthest setting back and see how it works.

No risers for me. But I'm fairly short. 5 ft 7 in. Plus, I prefer to be leaning forward just a little bit when in the saddle.

My '05 came with riser blocks already on. I just ordered a set of OEM bolts to return to the original height.

With the current 1" that are installed right now, I feel like I'm sitting too upright. I'm 6'3" and have a long torsoe, so I'm hoping the stock height will bring my torso down a bit.

I just removed the one inch blocks from my bike and wow what a difference that made! :) I wish I would have done this 4 years ago when I bought the bike! LOL
