Parts of NH, Ma and Me got hit by a devastating ice storm on Friday. We had 3- 5" of freezing rain which brought down everything.

I'm one of the lucky ones, my house is still intact though my property is devastated. I've tried to reach some of the local FJR guys but no reply yet. No surprise as the state power company has 500k users and 475k have no power.

I was out walking our property at 2:00 am and all you could hear was branches and trees exploding, it sounded like rapid small arms fire with an occasional artillery shell going off. All my trees are shredded and some falling branches ripped the phone (and therefore DSL) and cable wires right out of my house. The power line was ripped off the side of my house along with the entire power meter, anchor bolts and all. So far we are doing fine, I put a few banana peels, a couple of half cans of stale beer and a Mc Donalds bag into our generator and it is now pumping out 1.21 gigawatts of power so all is well. We are one of the very few that has (hot) water and lights. Living in the country we all have wells and sometimes septic systems that *require* a pump, so with no electricity there is no water & no septic. Right now it looks like we will be 6-10 days before we get power back. Ho-ho-ho, merry phucking Christmas ;) Just to be sure that we all get full impact of the power outage they are predicting we will have single number temperatures in the evenings.

Right now I'm sending this message from work, my building is <500' from the Amoskeg dam which is a power generation station -- we always have power here.

When did you say spring was going to get here?

I guess if things get too bad ya could camp on the floor at work?

I always thought it was a Jigawatt. I'm going to have to watch the movie again  ...................but I digress..............sorry to hear about the storm. It just skirted underneath us up here. I think there has been enough precipitation for this year!!! No more please!!!

We got a lot of ice here in Albany NY. Over 200,000 people without power on Friday. National Grid (our local utility co.) is saying some people may not have power for a week. I got lucky...my power never went out.

This is no good. Nice to hear you have the generator backup, in the 90's NY had an ice storm that took power out for over a week, you couldn't buy a generator. Got lots of friends now?

The storm missed us in RI (at least the ice part-we had record rainfall). TV says there are still a ton of people without power in Mass and NH. At the risk of sounding like the California guys I went riding today...

Unbelievable! I've been watching that.

I rode today and it started raining. Whole bike was a mess.

Sounds like Andrew all over again except.....

No single digit temps and no power for two (2) months.

Solar not sounding great but then again, not too bad.

Good luck and hang on!!!

I'm about 30 miles SE of Ionbeam and we had lots of tree damage from ice but didn't suffer power loss. My dad is about 30 miles north of Ionbeam and he's still with out power(public that is. It happens often enough in NH that he has a 5KW generator).

Alan, let us locals know if we can do anything for ya; bring a change of clothes to the office, etc??

Tomorrow temps are forecast in the 50's so maybe that will speed up power restoration, and reduce demand on alternate heating source.

Mother Nature: what a ***** sometimes.

Dang. Can't even imagine. Guess I won't complain that I rode 200+ miles today in 40F? Burrrr..

Hey guyz - take care, stay warm..

As stated earlier, I can't even imagine how cold/bad it is...

"North east got blasted"

Yes... yes it did... it wasn't bad news for everyone though...

Just a quick check in. It looks like we will be without power until the end of the week. The temperatures didn't drop like they were predicted. We in good shape with our generator and now gas is available. There is a ton of clean up work that needs to be done.

I still haven't heard anything from the local FJR guys.

Wow,Ionbeam.

That sucks. It was -16 here at Denver International Airport. About 47 miles Sw of there where I live it was -3.We get some weird *** blizzards here sometimes but nothing like the ice storms you folks get. I wish you guys the best!

Ken.

Alan, was thinking about our NE FJR buds. I am happy to hear that you're getting along well enough. It seems that there are very few places in the US where there is a low chance of severe weather.

Hang in there bud!,

Heidi

Hang tough guys. Not much you can do but plan and prepare.

We received about 2.5 feet of snow in the last 2 weeks. Temps warmed up yesterday and it started raining hard, all night. Side roads are _glare_ ice right now - and their calling for a flash freeze sometime this morning. Yeef'nHaw!

Is it June yet?

Rode the bicycle to work today. Saw plenty of black ice on my trip in. Might be time to go invest in Stabil.

I was thinking about you as well Ionbeam. We didn't get hit as hard here in southern VT. About half the ice you got along with some snow. If you need anything let me know. I even have a 4KW generator if needed. Stay warm.

Tom
