Parts of NH, Ma and Me got hit by a devastating ice storm on Friday. We had 3- 5" of freezing rain which brought down everything.
I'm one of the lucky ones, my house is still intact though my property is devastated. I've tried to reach some of the local FJR guys but no reply yet. No surprise as the state power company has 500k users and 475k have no power.
I was out walking our property at 2:00 am and all you could hear was branches and trees exploding, it sounded like rapid small arms fire with an occasional artillery shell going off. All my trees are shredded and some falling branches ripped the phone (and therefore DSL) and cable wires right out of my house. The power line was ripped off the side of my house along with the entire power meter, anchor bolts and all. So far we are doing fine, I put a few banana peels, a couple of half cans of stale beer and a Mc Donalds bag into our generator and it is now pumping out 1.21 gigawatts of power so all is well. We are one of the very few that has (hot) water and lights. Living in the country we all have wells and sometimes septic systems that *require* a pump, so with no electricity there is no water & no septic. Right now it looks like we will be 6-10 days before we get power back. Ho-ho-ho, merry phucking Christmas Just to be sure that we all get full impact of the power outage they are predicting we will have single number temperatures in the evenings.
Right now I'm sending this message from work, my building is <500' from the Amoskeg dam which is a power generation station -- we always have power here.
When did you say spring was going to get here?
