Today was what I consider a fantastic day in Northern California. It started early here in Orangevale with Sherri and I waking at 6:15 after a fitfull night of half sleep. We made it to the 8am rendevous with 15 min to spare so we fueled up the bike before we fueled up on breakfast and coffee.

Map of Ride Area ...kinda

This pic was taken before everyone arrived.

Breakfast at Cassidy's was fun. The waitress asked, "Why, if you are going to the expense and trouble of riding motorcycles, wouldn't we buy real motorcycles like Harley Davidsons?" Madmike2 gave her a great little saying about Harleys: something to the effect of, "Harleys are quite good at converting good fuel into waste products and loud noise without letting pesky horsepower get in the way."

Mike, please share the exact wording you used...anyway, it was over the poor lady's head and she began babbling about how she loves the horsepower of Harleys. Mike let me know that she might get it soon. I don't think she ever did.

The crew minus Skyway (he arrived right on time :haha: )

From Left to Right: OrangevaleFJR, FJRob's son Anthony, FJRob, Silverado Slick, WeekendRider, SWMBO, Cindy, Bluestreek, Ric in Sac, Madmike2. Behind the camera for this and almost all the remaining shots in this report is Joyfulgirl001 (Sherri)

Lined up and leaving the parking lot. Anthony was on his red Ninja 500 that sounded much like following a Ducati! While my clock says 10:27, it was 9:27, I never set my clock:

Cassidy's is near the Intersection of Elk Grove Blvd and E. Stockton Blvd. Stockton is essentially a service road for Hwy 99 along this stretch and the route took us South on Stockton and utilized back roads to get us down to the delta.

Back roads....must be a good place to dump trash??? NO!!!

On the way and during the ride around the delta, there were many farms and orchards:

In the Delta, we took 160 South and cross the Courtland Bridge, up river to a left on Courtland Road.

The water is high and moving fast!

Sherri and I were in the middle of the pack.

There were fast sweepers along the levee roads

In gear, engines off, kickstand down, HANDS ON BRAKES ;)

Sherri took pictures of things she thought were very important:

Action shots on the ferry:

The ferry pilot was pleased as she said, "Got across without tipping any of you over!"

Unloading. Yes...ferries are not something Sherri and I use daily so there are a lot of pics

DSC02845.jpg

Time to Ryde again?

DSC02847.jpg

The ferry empties it's passengers safely.

DSC02848.jpg

then R and L on Hwy 220 to Ryde. Up river to Walnut Grove

DSC02854.jpg

We crossed the river, took a short break and watched bridge rise and then rode up the East side of the river to Twin Cities Rd

DSC02856.jpg

DSC02858.jpg

Twin Cities Rd. East over I-5 and Hwy 99 to Ione via Rancho Seco. The day was incredibly clear. It is rare to see the mountains so clearly from this distance.

We feel this is evidence of a nuclear power program! (stalled perhaps)

Ione:

Hwy 88 to Jackson, L. on 49 to Sutter Creek, and take Sutter Creek Rd. to Volcano. Sutter Creek road was awesome. Great twisties, the creek was booming, however there were some slick surfaces to be careful of.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

They help us waiters live vicariously and survive another 2 months till April

From Volcano, up Ram's Horn Grade and ride Shake Ridge Rd. to L. on Fiddletown Rd., cross 49 and continue to Latrobe Rd. R. (North) on Latrobe Rd. under Hwy 50 and ride Salmon Falls Rd. to Hwy 49

We went this way

and then that way

DSC02903.jpg

I got in front of the Ninja!

DSC02904.jpg

He kept trying to pass me, but couldn't. Just kidding

DSC02905.jpg

I like barns as well as water, so Sherri takes pics of them for me

DSC02939.jpg

Great views

DSC02944.jpg

We ate lunch in Plymouth

DSC02950.jpg

It was quite the biker hangout

DSC02945.jpg

Time to fuel up?

DSC02946.jpg

We left Plymouth and kicked down to Latrobe Road, which turns into El Dorado Blvd, which turns into Salmon Falls Road, which takes some super primo twisties up to 49 about 4 miles South of Cool.

Latrobe Road...

Sherri got tired, I got tired, we boogied home in time to see some tired rock and rollers entertaining football fans. No hockey games on today :(

It was a great ride. We rode The Pace. Mike was a great leader and everyone followed well too. Two meals and 4 breaks. Sherri's first ferry crossing and my first cruise around the delta. It was a great day! Thanks Mike for organizing it, and thanks to all!

My three favorite riding events of this trip:

1) The ferry ride!

2) The road from Sutter to Volcano

3) Salmon Falls Road

Not in any kind of order ;-)

Andrew and Sherri, thanks for the pics and the write-up. This was a really fun day! We got to ride some really great roads and meet some new people. I was happy to show you some of my favorite "therapy" roads and I'm sure some of the group will ride them again, and that makes it all the more fun.

For all the Sacramento Valley riders who stayed home and watched the game, "Nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah!"

:bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :bleh:

I think FJRob and Anthony enjoyed themselves, too. Ahhhh, new converts! And I got to meet Mrs. SilveradoSlick (SWMBO=Kathryn).

Too bad the Highlanders, Rogdebs and exskibum couldn't make it. :haha: You were missed :haha: , really, :haha: I mean it! :haha: Seriously, I did think of you guys, "Gee, I wish Dave and Di were here, they'd be enjoying this!" "If only Roger and Deb were with us, they love Salmon Falls Road and its sunny and warm, the sky is soooo blue!" "Rich would be lovin' this. He'd know a couple more shortcuts and side roads and we'd be having an adventure if he were only with us!" See, I really really thought about you guys!

Just a little over 220 miles for me....What a great day!

Thanks for the great ride today Both of us had a great time, I am looking forward to a lot of FJR rides with all of you. Sherri; the pictures you took are awesome. if I send you an e-mail could you send me some copies?

Robert & Anthony

Thanks everyone for a wonderful day! The weather was so nice, it makes me wish for Spring!

When we arrived home and Andrew immediately jumped on the computer to download the photos from the memory card (seriously, when he gets home - he HAS to do this immediately! :D ) I was surprised to find that I took far more pics than I realized. 209 to be exact! To think, I was worried there weren't going to be very many or even any good pics to choose from. I am always surprised to see what I caught from the back of the FJR going down the road. It is fun and I love getting the shots of the riders behind us, especially going around the bends!

Enough from me... just had to say thanks and great seeing everyone! Let's do it again soon! Looking forward to April 18th!

Sherri

Great pictures Sherri!

418 for me, which included a trip through some pea soup fog. Thanks again for saving me the agony of having to sit through the Super Bowl, just wasting empty calories. I enjoyed riding along the river and the little ferry crossing, all new ground for me. I'm glad somebody took some picci's, as my camera never left the tank bag.

It trully is a small world, when I find out that Mrs SilveradoSlick (Kathryn) is a Nurse Practitoner who works with one of my SO's good freinds from nursing school.

I met some new faces, as well as many familiar ones. I'm waiting for the day that a doctor coins some phrase like "obsessive compulsive motorcycle riders syndrome", cause next to the description will be a photo of the NorCal group. :D

Ride on!

Oooooooh :D

Those roads are so, so familiar.

Great photo's Sherri, thanks for sharing, just wish we could have been there.

certain things at home just had to be done, and we've still only scratched the surface.

@ MMike :p :p , but thanks for thinking of us LOL

I tried to finish the day on a happier note by making mods to our Corbin seat.

I now know why the charge is so high for custom seats :erm:

I'll be looking for a stocker soon
