Northern Minnesota Ride

Was thinking of going up north for a ride. I've got a handle on some roads but I was looking for any info regarding some roads that people know of that would be good riding. Sometimes the best roads are the ones that aren't very apparent on the map. I don't have GPS on the bike. (yet) So any information would be appreciated. I'm hoping to go for two days. Days aren't scheduled yet but hoping to go in about 1-2 weeks. My schedule will be lightening up then.

Also, was wondering if anybody would be interested in hooking up for awhile or for the day that would be alright also. Thanks Again for any input or ideas.

If I went by myself I probably would go in the week. But I know that wouldn't work out for the rest of you. So let's tentavely set it up for the week-end of 27 & 28. That sound good for everybody?

stryg8r, I've been on #1 from ely to duluth and your right, that is a great road. Those few roads I know are good but being I only get up north once every year or so I don't know the roads all that great. Just around Alex to Brainerd, and the surrounding area. '

As it stands now I will be going to Duluth on the morning of the 27th to get my aerostich suit. They are starting it today and hope to have it done next week sometime. I have a hotel booked for the night of the 27th. You are welcome to come along, good fun riding up there and then we can get Derek to ride with us on the 28th. Remember that weekend in Memorial Weekend, so remember a hotel will be hard to find. I found one, and it was not easy, of course I was looking for a room on the Lake. We could share if you don't mind a pullout bed......

I know this is an old thread but I just found it. Anyways, the past few weeks I have taken a morning (1/2 day?)off of work and snuck out for a ride up to Ely. Heading up Hwy 4 into Aurora, east on the new scenic highway 15 to Hwy 2 and then up 2 till you hit Hwy 1. This is the fun part of 1 into Ely! Grab a bite, then turn around and come back 1 all the way to Finland, MN, then head back to Duluth. Total distance is about 280mi. Anyways, just an invitation to you "southern folks" to come on up and have a nice ride. I have invited a couple of brothers-in-law (HD riders) but they don't think they can make it that far! Also, I may be able to rig up a cot or extra bed for someone or two. The leaves should start changin' soon - should make a nice trip...send an email if you're heading up this way.

Thanks for the info. I never did make it up their anyway so I still would like to make a run but we shall see. I have two more 12 hour rallies this next month and a half and also the CFO to go to. So the chances of me getting up that way now are pretty slim. Unless the Harvest rally out of Brainerd will take me in that direction on Oct 7. I hope it does for the scenery that it might allow but we shall see. I'll keep you in mind along with Derek when I do make it up that way.
