We haven't watched live TV in years either and skip through all ads, but, Deb has a thing for recording ---- says it relaxes her

I needed to know if any of you out there were as obsessive about recording news, sports, old movies, cooking shows ---- you name it! At least she will NOT miss a MotoGP -- lol

The DVR with 200 hours capacity is always 90% full.

2TB external hard drive is ---- FULL ! .. Full I tell ya! --- of crap we'll never watch in our lifetime
no.gif
and she ,knows it! , a quick estimate of 1500 hours (HD + SD)

.

But .... My Deb does appear relaxed

3TB was the biggest I could go with my DTV-DVR, seems it has a problem formatting and sectoring any thing over that. For me, this is plenty tho :)

0. Don't own one. Rarely watch tv. Went from cable to DirecTV a few yrs back and now I have >200 channels of not a damn thing worth watching. I do have a dvd player tho, 7 or 8 yrs now. It's had 2 dvd's in it. I'd rather be outdoors doing something. Anything. No tv, no phone. Nothing but dogs, bugs and birds.

So you're sayin' you get all your porn on the internet? Cuz we know you have the internet!

+1
It's to the point that, if I start to watch something on live TV, I get so ticked off at all the commercials, I'll record the remaining and wait to watch it until it's done.
Yep! I'll find something to do and wait until it's recorded. 4 minutes of commercials in 5 seconds flashing by is all I need to know about commercials nowadays! Now, THAT relaxes Me! :))

I hope no one listens to Tosh.0 and starts airing commercials in slow motion so that, when I fast forward, they play back on my DVR at normal speed.

My DVR goes forward and back at 4x, 15x, 60x and 300x. Its gonna cost them a fortune to play a full commercial at -300x. Haha...

If one watches the "news" on DVR, is it still news?

Personally I hate the (TV version) of news and would prefer a rapid series of root canals. But I know that isn't a commonly held opinion or they wouldn't keep playing the reruns.

I'm with the "love my DVR" crowd and can't stand to watch TV without it. I've got pretty good at getting highlights of sports events and still getting the feel of the game, especially football. When there isn't a hurry up offense I can get in a good rhythm and watch every play in about 1/3 the time of live. But I hate it most when I accidentally hit ffwd and then skip instead of two skips and it jumps to the next half hour or worse, the end of the game and you see the score.

I'd guess then, so far, I win the bet with Deb

. She was hoping one of you guys with come on and say something like ... "Phht !! Gotcha beat Deb. I have way more hours recorded than that !!"

I thank you all .. LOL. LOL

No DVR here...

Yet I don't miss anything.

I'm an "expert" at locating and downloading 99.9999% of anything I want to watch. Anyone with "Usenet" knowledge knows of what I speak.

Just finished downloading and watching every episode of "Top Gear" broadcast since 2002. Same for "Wheeler Dealers" since 2003. Same for "Archer", which is probably the funniest thing on TV.

Currently in th process of archiving every "Marvel Studios" movie released since 1998.

Usenet is WONDERFUL!!

We probably have 120 hours recorded, and I know we'll never watch it all. We don't take the premium channels -- HBO, Cinemax, etc. -- but every now and then they give us a weekend free. When they do that, I record everything that even remotely looks like something my wife or I might watch. Then we'll start a movie and 15 minutes into it, one of us will say "Is this doing anything for you?" The other says "Nope." Then we erase it.

Holy cow, you don't live in New England, do you?!?! The only thing we get for free is the notice that says the rates are going up again, there will be few channels on the basic plan after the new rate increase and the other bundled plans are being redistributes so now you need 4 bundles to get the same programming you used receive with just two plans.

Yo! Top Gear (the real one from the UK, not that limp dik POS from the US) and Wheeler Dealers are both great shows. I'll have to look up Archers 'cause being a TV troglodyte I don't have a clue what that one is about. But thanks for the recco!
