MMMMM,,,,, sushi is goooooood!

Hey Brian! Welcome to the FJR Forum. :) I didn't realize you were considering an FJR. I love mine man,,,, I kept up with Skeeter on his R6 and Sal on his 636 last weekend,,, well,,, I kept them in sight anyway. LOL

For real Brutha,,,, read this forum from top to bottom. A whole lotta good info here. :)

Hey Reno J : About the the two bolts the one from Ohlins and the one you bought with all those threads, there is a difference.

You can usce the threaded bolt but it will wear and the threads are the weakest spart for wear it will not let your shock work correctly.

the bolt supplied from Ohlins , all that area does not have threads is a harden area for wear which is what you need .

Take the dimentions of the ohlins bolt and see if another bolt like it is used on another bike, honda kawasaki, etc and use it or use the thread one and then replace with the one you are going to order from Ohlins that is the correct bolt for that shock.

Yeh I have just started thinking about it. I want to keep the R1 though!! :yahoo:

Looks like some good people with good info here so I will check it out a bit before I go full on Post Whore!!! :assassin:

I just completed the same installation. At the FJRinfo site they used a ladder to prop up the tail but this tail raising rig is shown for your approval.

No need for a hoist of other set-up. Just like raising a sailing mast. It is hooked on the front fairing support and to my Givi rear rack. There is little weight to worry about, and you can't see it, but the board is a 10" wide plank for stability.

Tried removing an Ohlins shock from my 04 abs FJR tonight. What a major *** PAIN!!!! My Wilbers was easy-peasy coming out the bottom, but the Ohlins with the resevoir wont fit and has to come out the side or top. Again, not easy with the abs pump in the way.

After fighting with it and reading HMarc's how-to on fjr.info, I came in and found this thread which helps a little, but am still soliciting for any advice on how to do this the next time around. I got it out, barely. But don't see how I'll get it back in after the rebuild.

So any 04/05 ABS owners out there that installed the Ohlins shock that can provide some helpful info? It would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps the same issues for Gen II owners too?

Clicky HERE for the shock in question. The one with the piggyback resevoir that gets in the freaking way.

Here is HMarc's how-to which is helpful but shows the procedure for a non-abs. I do believe it's the ABS pump that truly does make this a true clusterfuck.

For reference, I did loosen the rear subframe and lift/tilt it out of the way. Wouldn't have gotten it out otherwise. I also removed the abs mounting nuts but you can still only move it so far out of the way do to hoses/electrical wiring.

Wow, what is an hour evolution with the Wilbers turned into a several hour mess with the Ohlins.

FYI, when I bought this FJR with 6k miles on it, it came with the Ohlins already so I didn't install it. Nor do I have the instructions. Will be calling Ohlins ASAP.
