I have an 08 FJR and just changed the oil for the first time (bought a couple of months ago). Owners manual states 4.23 quarts of oil with a new filter. I put 4 quarts in and the oil level on the motorcycle shows a full glass of oil (way over the top dot). What am I missing here?

I watched a video and the guy put three quarts into his....is manual wrong or is the oil level indicator off?

Thanks

Since I am in Canada, I simply use 4 litres if I buy a 4 L jug. (I do check the level and sometimes leave a dribble in the jug.) Lately, I have been buying Rotella in the 18.9 L pail. Never measure the amount added. Just until full, run, let settle, adjust and good until the next time.

After filling it initially, you need to run the motor for a few minutes. Use that time to check for leaks and clean up. Then let the bike cool and the oil settle. Add a bit more if necessary to bring the level to the upper mark by the sight glass.

You didnt use a motorcycle specific oil...? Youre asking for trouble, big time! (Wink!)

I remember a few here believed the FJR actually makes oil.
