Oil light came on?

There are two points here you are all missing:

1. Never take off on a cold engine.

Hold that throttle wide open in neutral until you see at leat two bars.

2. The light is indeed a low oil qty. indication.

Fill that thing up till it comes out the filler hole, you will never have the light come on again. Does cause it to smoke some but the mufflers should never rust out.

There, problems solved. :D
I think this post needs more smilies......
As he says this "with tongue in cheek" :D :D :D :D :D

More on the serious side the oil light did come on once after just pulling away on a trip last summer. It was early in the morning and I didn't want to distub the other users of the mon and pop hotel. The light only came on after a few short miles. I pulled over to the side of the road, shut off the bike. I checked the oil and it was right up. Fired the bike back up and oil light was not on. By this time with the short ride and then stopping the motor was up to the two or three bars.

This has never happened again but then I let it warm up as I do my circle check... B)

First, as has been mentioned, the oil light monitors oil level, not oil pressure. Most of us are acustomed to vehicles with oil pressure warning lights in which the illumination of said light can be a precursor to immediate engine damage. Not so with the FJR - an illuminated oil light should register with the same alert level as a low reading on the sight glass, but nothing more. If my light comes on, I'll check it next time I'm stopped, but I won't slalom across six lanes of I-5 to get to the shoulder.

Second, every recent Yamaha I've owned (two R6's, an R1, and the FJR) has a somewhat squirrely and pessimistic oil level sensor. Another reason, to take the illumination of the light with a grain of salt.
