Why try to re-invent the wheel? I find that I can't do better than Yamalube 15-50 especially when it comes to smooth transmission gear changes. That and I give Yamaha credit for knowing what lubricants to feed their motorcycles.

Same with the BMW it gets the BMW 15-50 synthetic blend which is what is recommended by BMW and the cost is the same as Yamalube.

I used to use Rotella and then it occurred to me that my motorcycle engines are not diesels.

Mobil 1 10w/40 High Mileage from WalMart for me. The high mileage does not have the energy conserving stuff in it. I can usually get my Bosch filter when I am there too.
Don't know if I would recommend the "High Mileage" stuff. From the Mobil website:

Formulated for engines with more than 75,000 miles, Mobil Super High Mileage oils contain seal conditioner to help prevent leaks and control oil consumption.

No idea whether a "seal conditioner" is a good idea. Oil consumption and leaks are rarely issues on FJRs and I would be concerned that "conditioning" seals might reduce flow around valve guides etc. In any case, I don't see where the FJR would benefit.

On the last oil change I revisited Rotemla T6. Found some in the stash I forgot I had. I'm actually liking the way it shifts (at least right now) vs the Quicksilver 20w50 I've used the last few changes. I may change my mind again when it gets hot; who knows? :)
