I've had a couple of people tell me while taking pictures on the Suches Loop "You need to go to Gixxer Corner!!!" (yes, with the exclamation points) Even though I've been riding the Loop off and on for ten years, I've never really known the motorcycle landmark names... other than Stonepile Gap, Neels Gap, Turner's Corner, etc. etc. So what are they? And where's "Gixxer Corner"? And had it been named in the early '90s, would it have been "Ninja Corner" or "goof2 corner"? And why does it hurt when I pee?

Ignore that last one. Reference map pics below:

Jwilly - nice map link. Now I see why they would call it Grixxer Corner. Cant remember the turn numbers, but it looks like the reverse of a section at VIR.

This particular corner has a bit of history associated with it. When the Ducati 916 first appeared on the market; it wasn't long before a dude from Michigan trailered his new Duc down to JAWJA with a view toward showing us local boys how to ride. Well, he tore up the roads over Friday and Saturday and really feathered up those sticky tires. He had us boys sit'n below the porch oooohing and aaahhinng about all his Big Dawg tall tales on that brand new 916. It show was purrrtty and red, red, red all over.

Well, Sunday comes and it was his last day to ride in the red hills of JAWJA. He blasted that fearsome DUC down that long straight heading for GSXR corner with that, oh so sharp right hand turn at the end. Well sir, he turned it in and planted his knee; but those knackered tars jest didn't hold him. He slid on down that forest path the Harley parkers had made and tore that Duc completely to hell. There wasn't an intact piece of red on it.

It did, however, trailer on back to Michigan jest fine. But, while he was heah, he sho was a Big Dawg!

So, as far as I knowed, this old corner has been known as the 916 or Ducati corner for lo these many years.
