Well, it seems that we're now in the SE section. I hope all of the Old Dominion Brethren will see this.

ANYHOW... I'm thinking that maybe it's about time to plan the next gathering.

The weather is getting great & it sure would be nice to be in the mountains to witness some of this season's beautiful blooming... besides getting to hang out with an incredible crew of folks.

How about some ideas? Where/when to meet, etc.

My vote will be to go in the vicinity of the last trip... or even a little south of there would be good... but make it an "on the road" overnighter. Wherever we stop... we drop... instead of having home base as we did last trip.

Anybody/everybody???

luvtoride - I'm with ya. Been riding every day this week. Yahoo! I'm finding any excuse to get out. The weather is super. I'm out on business the next couple of weeks, but I'm thinking the 22nd/23rd or 29th/30th of April would be great weekends.

Anyone?

Well, if we don't hear from others pretty soon it looks like it'll be you and me MSL. I'm hoping that getting this to the top of the list will bring attention to it. WHERE ARE YOU VIRGINIANS!!!

brazos - you're always welcome. Gotta get together with you and talk about TN and places to retire - maybe at EOM if not before.

Not sure about an overnighter this month, but I'll keep watching here and see where it's headed. I'm thinking about a ride to Appomattox with an overnight stay in a nice B&B - give Lorie payback for riding w/me!

Depending on location, would a Tennessee resident be welcome?
Hell yeah Mike! You're always welcome mister!

As far as Mr. Lor... Good on ya' Mr. Lor for taking good care of Ms. Lorie Lor.

Hey Lorie Lor, how's it go lady? Please pass my message of greetings along, Jim.

Anyhoo, if Mr. B. Parker wanted to join in we'd probably need to drop south of last meet for this ride... although, you only have like, an hour to the Virginia Line from where you are, right Mike? You need to ride at least as far as me!!! Also, maybe you could drag Travis's a$$ along with you.

How's about somewhere north of Roanoke? No map in front of me right this minute.

Also, I'll get in touch w/ Mr. David Gilley. Mr. Gilley is the recent recipient of a new bike & the Feej had to go (blasphemy!!!)... but he's said that he'll still ride with me now and then.

What do you guys think of the weekend of April 22nd-23rd?

Well alright! That's two! Um, I forgot... MSLPilot will probably be a go, also.

I took a quickie look at a map. I'm thinking that maybe we should meet somewhere around Roanoke. 311 going west into WV is a great road! I'd need to do some more map staring to figure something beyond that.

I know that we'd have joiners from the Roanoke area, too. Ingo, Shields & David Gilley are all from the area. I'm going to shoot them a PM.

Ok, I've had a moment to stare at a map. My thoughts... I'm thinking that we meet at Peaks of Otter for Lunch (On the BRP... I think that they'll be open by that time). Ride 43W through Eagle Rock, hit 220 N to 60E & 42N to Rte 39. Make a rest stop @ Lake Moomaw (Rte 687?). Take 39 w into Marlinton & spend the night @ Marlinton Inn. Sunday leave Marlinton & work our way back down 39 to Rte 28. Ohhh yeahhh, the sweepers of Rte 28! Shaweet! I'm thinking 28 to 250 & 250 back into Staunton to end the ride on Sunday afternoon... & head home from there. Does anyone else have suggestions???

Heidi

Heidi - message passed and Lorie says hi back.

Where is the Peaks of Otter - mile marker or other way to locate?

From memory I think that it's somewhere around MM 84? Also, it's a bit north of Roanoke right on the BRP. Rte 43 intersects there.

Got it - talked with Lorie a bit ago and we'll see what's on the plate for that weekend with an eye towards biking!

Here is a pic standing in front of Marlinton Motor Inn the 3rd weekend of March last year. See the bit of snow still in the mountain? If we have a few people I could call & see if they'll give us some sort of group rate.

Great Jim, I hope to hear that you'll be joining in.

Jim & Heidi. Hey, if you all get down this way let me know , I'd like to ride w/ ya again. By the way the Peaks of Otter is exactly 32 miles north of rt 460 right outside of Roanoke.

So, does that mean that you'd like to join us??? since Peaks of Otter is 32 miles north of 460? That's less than an hour & I'm oficially jealous! I'll have a 4.5-5 hour ride out there.

OK, need help w/ the location of Peaks of Otter...

My Mapsource software shows Peaks of Otter Coffee Shop but only locates one in New Jersey. It does locate Peaks of Otter Visitor's Center on the BRP in the meet area. Also, it shows that the BRP intersects 43, then follows 43 for a spell, then branches north again. At which branch point is Peaks of Otter located?

Thanx.

And, this will be a 2.5-3 hr ride to get there for me, so Heidi gets the LD Award.

Heya Mike... Peaks of Otter is on The BRP. From memory I think that it's around mile marker 84. They've got bathrooms, food & stuff like that. I'm also not positive that they'd be open this time of year.

Rte 43 is a good little ride on the east side of the BRP. I hear that it's even better on the west going out towards Eagle Rock.

If there is someone familiar with the area maybe they can chime in... maybe make a restaurant suggestion if Peaks of Otter is closed.

Woo Hoooo! We's gonna' ride!

Heidi, hey. I'm familiar w/ the prkwy around the peaks as well as 43 going down to Buchanan and over to Eagle Rock. It is a good ride but 43 between prkwy and =town of Buchanan is alot more fun going up from town towards prkwy, but from where you'd be coming if you want to hit Eagle Rock you almost have to go down hill from prkwy but still fun and really only 8-10 miles. After getting to town 43 goes over to Eagle Rock-about 20-25 mi-also good ride w/ lots of curves, hills, and places to pick up a little speed/time. Once in Eagle Rock there are several good routes to take either west over to New Castle and if time allowing-my favorite road in western VA, rte 311 over mountain to Paint Bank (Buffalo farm)good place to eat,gas etc. Then you could take 311 on over another mtn to W. Va. Great, great roads all! Shields.

Shields, good! Some feedback on routes! I love it! Would you have any suggestions on Restaurants close to the BRP in the general vicinity in case PEaks of Otter is closed?

I've done 311 a couple of times. That is a great spin through there. I am open to what people want to do... so post up some goodies people!

I'm also familiar w/ 43 on the east side of the BRP... that's a very nice ride. I've never done the west side out to Eagle Rock... but would love to do it.

(Shields, I posted my ideas a few posts up, too)

Anyhow, we have just under two weeks to make some sort of decision. I'd like to get a route into the GPS... so, it'd be really great to decide on routing b4-hand.

Oh yeah baby... we's gonna' ride!
