Oldest guys I have actually ridden with is 1) Petey and 2) Horacio, a local riding buddy who is in his late seventies. Like Petey, a great rider and a great guy to hang out with. I always say I want to be like Horatio when I grow up. Since I've known him he as gone from a BMW S1000rr to a K1300s and just traded in on a HP4. Oh, he also has a Lambo sitting in the garage.

Speaking of age and riding I really liked this t-shirt I saw probably 25 years ago but was too young to wear at the time. It showed a rider dragging a knee and the caption read: "Men don't quit riding because they get old, they get old because they quit riding." Now that I'm getting a little on in years I'd love to get one but can't find it. Anyone ever seen it?

If I can't find it I'm going to look at getting one made. I also looked at getting one with a MC and the Hunter S. quote "Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body. But rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up,totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming .... WOW what a ride.”

Just get a bunch made, and bring them to the Ramble in the spring.

Had one with a similar picture that read, "Aren't you just a little too old to still be wearing out the knees of your pants?"

check out Zazzle or CafePress, they both have some available.

My father is 71 and he got his first bike when he was 66. He lives in Michigan and still rides.
Did he get it as a retirement gift to himself?? Cool that he started riding at such a late age.
Yeah kind of. I honestly had no idea he ever wanted to ride growing up, he never said a word about it. But then again he's from that older generation of silent male fathers that never really said anything about anything. lol

I'm glad he stays active and is enjoying it. He's also an avid hunter/fisherman so that keeps him from sitting around.

I have a couple of customers that come into the Harley dealership where I work part time that are in their 70's and still ride 12k plus every year. Oldest guy I've met that comes in is 83 and just brought in his Buell S-3 for state inspection recently. We have a guy that works for us part time yet at 74 years young. I think it was only a year or 2 ago he rode to Alaska and back. I keep telling him I want to be like him when I grow up!

That t-shirt was in the Aerostitch catalog and I think is still available from them.

When I bought my 2003 FJR, I sold a BMW RT1100 to a gentleman who flew out from Texas for the fly and ride home on his new RT. He was 86 at the time, and did the trip solo. I heard from him that he made it home safe, but lost touch. Amazing!

XL please.

I can't say I really know this guy,but here's a story about the oldest rider I will never forget.

A few years ago I was heading to California and I stopped at a rest stop in Indiana. As I was getting ready to get back on the bike a man of about 80 approached me and said."I see you've been taking care of my bike."We talked for a little bit and he said he was a retired teacher that had recently lost his wife.He told me how in his younger days he used to get on his BMW and travel and camp throughout the western U.S.,just as I was setting out to do.After a little conversation he patted my drybag that contained my camping gear, turned and started to walk away. After about 5 paces he turned around and said,"You know, people who don't travel by motorcycle and camp, they miss something."He gave me a knowing smile and walked away.I will never forget that encounter.God how I wish I would have gotten his address and sent him some pictures,I'm sure it would have stirred some fond memories.
