My head feels like it's gonna explode.
I'm with you on that one. Holy **** this thread is all over the place.
Seems to happen to me a lot...
https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?s...=120887&hl= This one is still my very favorite of any of ShinyPartsUp's topics.

It absolutely qualifies as a "Soup Sandwich" per Master Warchild's definitions. Oh and Shiny, when you decide to change out both of the burnt out bulbs, make sure you go out on a rainy night without a flashlight and change them on the side of the road like "That Smart One" from Owosso, Michigan did. Truly a Rhodes Scholar in Sheep Husbandry, with a PhD in Buggery!

Keeriste!!! Now I've got to go hose off my office keyboard!

That Sumatran Dark Roast is a ***** to clean off textured plastic.

Fuker! :D :D :D

On the off chance anybody is reading this for other than prurient enjoyment, I will try to bring it back on topic for a moment.

My left low-beam is out. Left high beam works and although I thought the right bulb was blown, I checked it out further today and curious things are happening.

Symptoms:

I turn key to on but engine off: No lights (memory is the lights should come on when ignition turned on)

In neutral I start the engine: right low-beam comes on. High beams left and right work.

I hit the kill switch and right low-beam stays on.

I turn the ignition off and light goes off.

Does that sound normal? I thought both lights were out yesterday because when I hit the kill switch yesterday (ignition on) after a ride, both lights were out. I cannot recreate that situation today.

Any advice besides replace both bulbs by the side of the road at night in rain and lightening strikes?

Mike,

No lights with key on is correct, lights on when you fire it up. Hitting the kill, lights are still on and only go off via key.

Sorry to answer this 'un for ya ;) Let the dog an pony show begin again!

:jester:

Normal. They're left off by design to leave as much reserve cranking amperage in the battery for starting as possible. If you were to hit the starter an the bike didn't light...you'd likely see the lights come on.

In neutral I start the engine: right low-beam comes on. High beams left and right work.

Not normal and you likely have a left low-beam filament out where the high filament is still intact. You'll have to replace the bulb.

I hit the kill switch and right low-beam stays on.

Normal in that lights stay on after you've had the engine started. The kill switch just kills the engine, not the lights.

I turn the ignition off and light goes off.

Pretty sure that's normal.

It's been three days now...why you still fretting and haven't changed the bulb or the pair? It's not that big a job and common to do.

AND....

...he works in health care.

Doesn't that make you feel all warm inside!

Mikey...change the left bulb! It's the easiest, anyway, just carry the other bulb with you "in case".

Sheesh......

....but this thread has been fun to watch develop. Aren't you glad you weren't asking something REALLY technical, involved and convoluted!?!?

O whait, this is the FJR forum...we can make ANY topic convoluted....and last for days.....

...except, maybe, beer.

Don't mess with beemerdons's beer.

Or Bust's.

Or Howies.

Or Iggy's.

I came back to read this after letting it run a couple of days, because I wondered what was going on. And he still hasn't put a bulb in it?

I had a bulb out when I started the bike to go home from work one day. Ran by Wally World on the way home. New bulb was installed within 30 minutes of discovery of darkness.

Bulbs burn out. Replace them.

All the symptoms described in post 63 are normal, except for no photons from one low beam. It's the bulb.

Some bikes light up with the key. Not ours. (Yamaha probably realized how close they were to not having enough battery as it was, and built the lights-after-starting circuit.)

But I enjoyed the rest of the thread, too.

Hell, I'm still enjoying the picture in my mind of Bust sitting in the rainy dark by the side of the road, getting soaked and wondering how in hell he's gonna get home on a bike with a burned out headlamp.....a bike with TWO headlight bulbs. :dikweasel:

Jokes on you fukpickle!! I took my clothes off so I wouldn't get soaked on the way home.

:****:

An the hijak'd bus keeps rollin' along!

I have an electrical gremlin in my honda heated grips and going to have the shop track it down, and do the lights at the same time. I'm still cleaning up after my son spray painted his bicycle frame without me, and oversprayed EVERYTHING in the garage. Being on-call 24-7 starting tonight doesn't do much for my motivatin either. Especially when another psychiatrist quit today... Besides, I did a lot of work on the KLR and that was the main priority the last couple days.

Wait a minute! Why am I justifying myself to you? <_< :p
